I can't choose!!!

Three weeks ago I placed a deposit for a baby male CAG. Today I went to visit my baby and the breeder not only brought him out, but also his sister. These babies are 8 weeks old. My male wasn't doing a whole lot, other than let me pet and feed him, but the female was honking and nibbling away on my fingers.

Now I don't know what to do. Fortunately the breeder is willing to hold the female so that we can come back to meet them again.

This is such a difficult decision, as babies don't really show a lot of personality at this very young age.

So...baby boy, or baby girl??? What shall I do?

The female has longer tail feathers, but she's also a few days older than her brother.

I prefer males, that way you completely eliminate the risk of egg binding. Egg binding can be deadly, one less thing to worry about with a male bird lol

I have girls. well, except for zonzilla. I'm not sure about him. I think he's a male.

Honesty, pick the bird that picks YOU. If the female is more receptive to you touching and holding her, she's your bird

It definitely is a tough one. The male hatched 6 days after his sister, which is why I believe his sister was showing more personality yesterday. He's very quiet and not skittish at all. The breeder brought out another female from the clutch who was quite skittish.

This is driving me crazy. I'd love to get both, but that's not an option.

like Gina said, let the bird pick you. which ever one is more comfortable with you.
I don't have an AG, but I would pick the male.

I would say let the bird pick you. It sounds like the girl liked you! I have a male CAG and he is VERY tempermental. So I don't think it matters if they are male or female with that. It all depends on the birds personality! Good luck and can't wait to find out what you chose!

I will echo the "let the bird pick you". I had heard it but didn't really believe it until I went in to pick my TAG baby. At that time I didn't know the sex, all I knew was I kinda wanted a girl but the one with the Number 2 on it's band was MY bird no matter what it's sex was. As fate would have it after the DNA came back the one with Number 2 on it's band was a girl and she came home with me yesterday and I couldn't be happier!

At what age does a personality start showing and the bird is old enough to pick you? I was talking to a breeder and she said while she was feeding them, they act all the same as long as you have food for them. I don't quite believe that, but then she has more experience than I. This may be an important question for those looking at babies.

If the female seems to really like you, go with her. I'm a big believer in getting a bird that you connect with, as opposed to a bird you think you want. I've always wanted a Timneh or Eclectus, but ringnecks always steal my heart for some reason. On a personal note, I do tend to do go for boy birds and girl dogs. I have no idea why I do that though.

Sheez! So I went today to see the two CAGS with the hope of being able to choose which one I wanted. Back and forth I went. One minute I was choosing the female, and the next minute I was back to the boy. This went on for, easily, 45 minutes. My husband was leaning towards the boy, and my daughter towards the girl. Some help those two were!

I turned to my husband and said, "Remember my mentioning that I wanted the baby to choose us? Neither of them are doing a very good job of picking us."

The moment I said that, the baby boy CAG strolled over to my husband, walked up his arm and perched on his shoulder. We both exchanged looks, wondering, was this 'the sign'? A moment later, the baby boy walked back down my husband's arm, made a bee line over to me, and proceeded to walk up my arm to nestle in my neck.

So.....It's a boy!!! He chose us, right on cue!!!:emoticonc

Hopefully selecting a name for him will be a lot easier than this was!
