Dear All,
Please have Patience with this big post.

I have an alex named greenie. I love him with all of my heart but now due to relocation of my family i am unable to take care of him. I am writing it with a heavy heart all you can criticise me for being a bad owner. I accept it. But right now i need help and suggestions for his better life afterwards. I am from India.

My main concerns are:
Should i give him to some other person?
should i give him to a bird charity hospital?
should i let him be free in a bird santuary?

Let me introduce you to his behavior so that you all know better where he'd be fit in.

He is an anxious bird. He is not very close to anybody. I feed him everyday and take care of him and its been 1 year since we got him. he was 2 years old and a very aggressive bird when he came. he hates strangers. he is more like an independent type of guy who has his own boundaries. Last important thing his wings are clipped, he can fly to heights but i don't feel he can fly enough like normal unclipped birds.

The kind of lifestyle he is leading with us.

He sleeps in hi cage but we don't cage him during the day his food and water is always there in cage and whever he feels like he eats and sleeps and drink etc. we never scares his cz he is already anxious. i play with him like just touching his beak, this is only thing he lets me do with him. he sometimes nip my finger very badly. I love him like crazy. Never shouted at him for his behaviour. but still he is not friendly.

i feel it would be a good idea to send him to charity bird hospital for following reasons:
1 Medical Acess 24/7
2. He will live in big space with multiple companions where he could get a love of his life! which might make him confident
3. He doesn't get friendly with humans so there he doesn't have to get human interaction alot.
4. since his wings are clipped he will be safe from predators aswell.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IS BEST FOR HIM? I REPEAT I AM FROM INDIA SO WE DON;T HAVE MUCH AUTHORITIES TO TAKE CARE OF BIRDS.

i Pulled him out from a place where they capture elder birds. keep them badly and sell them and i wanted to give him his best life and i did everything but now things are not in my favor so i have to let him go. PLEASE HELP! I need suggestions or Is there anyone who can give my baby the life the deserve?
thank you
Awaiting for your reply!
His Pictures are attached he is a very handsome big guy.
Greenie - The Magnificent!

Hi Anula,

I'm so sorry to meet you under such unhappy circumstances! It can be very difficult when circumstances change and hard decisions have to be made. I'm sorry you're having to give away your Greenie!

The first thing I'd do is ask around among your friends to see if anyone really wants to keep an Alexandrine. It would be much safer to give Greenie to someone you know is likely to treat him kindly. Also, if your circumstances change for the better later on, it might be possible to get him back.

If you choose to send him to a sanctuary, then you can at least be confident that he'll be well cared for. His behaviour about not wanting to be touched or petted sound pretty much like most of Alexandrines I know (but not all). I don't think anyone would be surprised to know he's not snuggly. My pair hates being touched, but when they're out of the cage, all they want to do is sit on my shoulder or wrist. They follow me everywhere and I know they love me very much.

Whatever you decide to do with Greenie, try not to feel bad about it. You can't help that things have changed and you're doing exactly the right thing in trying to find him the best home. If you get another bird in the future, do try not to clip its wings unless you absolutely have to! That can ruin his confidence and cause him to become cranky and bitey. Of course, with that huge bill, no one wants to be bitten by an Alex! :)

Best of luck to you and do let us know what you decide. I hope Greenie finds the best home possible!

Betrisher :)

so sad about this all.
my vote is for charity bird hospital.

if u give to any friend or family, i am not sure, they will love n care as u do, humans behavior is worst at times, i have seen few ppl they keep pets, but just keep, no care no love no attention,

Thank you sir for your kind words. I have posted article on social media aswell. i have found a few ppl wiling to take care of him but as a mom i don't feel that they'll be able to take care of him (little trust issues). i don't want him to be caged.
Thanks for your advise
