I know it sounds 'funny' but my budgie was one of THE BEST birds i ever had. he was amazing. his vocabulary was excellent, he was massively attentive to me, he even came when called. I could have him flying freely in my home at any time when i was home and when i called him, he came right to me. I miss him every day. I know it all comes down to the individual bird and that individual bird's relationship with you, but i know it is possible to have that kind of thing with a "simple" little budgie. There is a lot more bird there than people often realize unless they have had one like that.
Conures are super cuddly, but they can get a little bit rowdy/noisy sometimes. A green cheek could work out pretty well though.
And you mentioned the Senegals. I know one senegal who is SOOO chill and sweet and friendly to everyone she meets. She is like this gentle, old soul.
So i guess sometimes, pick which type "seems" like it could work and then go with your gut on which bird feels right with you. I think deep down each bird is an individual and they all have their own quirks.
