Hello Fellow Parrot Owners -

glad to be on this forum , what a great supportive community of amazing people.

I read many threads related to Bronze Winged Pionus but contacted all breeders that were mentioned on those threads but no luck finding anyone who is currently breeding a Bronze Winged Pionus.

Ideally I would like to raise a baby but I am also open for adopting a older bird as well.

I really appreciate if anyone of you could share details about breeders or pet stores who might be breeding or selling Bronze Winged Pionus.

Thank you much.

Hello and welcome! What part of the world are you from? That may help to narrow down breeders for you.
Good luck in your search!

Good points Terry. Thank you for asking clarifying questions.

I am located in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

I am willing to pay for shipping for a Bronze Wing Pionus Baby from anywhere in North America.

I saw this one after running a quick Google search...
Pionus Parrots from Avalon Aviary

I haven't ever heard of them, but they may be worth checking out:)

It does look like they have not updated in awhile, however:(

I have already contacted them and they do not have any pionus anymore ...

BW Pionus breeders are all retired and sold their birds away ... its harder to find than BH Pionus

Hoping someone comes along who can steer you in the right direction!

There is a breeder in UK who has two Bronze Winged Pionus babies now ... does anyone know what is the process of importing and how long and expensive or not it is ?

Birds require a minimum 30 days quarantine at a USDA facility in either NY, Miami, or LA and must also have a USFWS permit. The process is daunting, expensive, and would be a terrible experience to inflict on a baby or young bird. I repatriated to the US from Japan and brought my Blue-fronted Amazon with me, but he was an older bird. I also brought some finches at the time, and they all died in the USDA facility.

It seems to be much easier to import from Canada if you can find a breeder there. The birds have to be checked by a USDA vet at the port of entry, but from what I understand, there is no quarantine.

I know it's a challenge, but if I were you, I'd keep looking patiently in the States. A bird will turn up eventually, esp. as the new nesting season begins in spring.

These are great folks, I go out of my way to visit every time I am in Colorado!
FYI, they have great prices on TOPS!
They run a major rescue, but as you said, the listings are horribly out of date!
Like many rescues, they are overwhelmed!

I know this breeder does occasionally have other types of pionus. JC Aviary They work with other breeders as well, so they might be able to point you in the direction of a bronze wing or if you're lucky, get one for you. I've been following their instagram for awhile and they always have beautiful, healthy looking birds. Can't speak from experience though, as I haven't got a bird from them.

I agree, I tried 2 find a BW this fall but ANY pionus in my area (Mid Atlantic) was slim pickings. I was lucky enough 2 find my BH baby waiting 4 me as the fates intervened <3

If u find a good breeder, please keep us posted. Wishing u good luck!

Hello,

I'm located in southern California and have been looking for a bronze wing pionus baby for the last two years. Just wondering if anyone's had luck yet. Thanks!

Have you had any luck finding a BW? I also have decided a bronze wing is the bird for me ..... i am in Virginia and have not found any either. Please let me know if you have found, or do find some info. Thank you in advance

Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon has a bronze wing and blue head for adoption as a pair. I don't meet the proximity requirement to adopt from them. For someone close enough to adopt from them they would be worth checking out.

When you say "raise it from a baby", do you mean post-weaning?

Honestly, breeders cannot find bronze wings to pair up. I STRONGLY discourage buying babies for pets (Bronze wings absolutely and also maxi's) at this time because no one can get any pairs, in 10 years all of the current pairs will quit breeding and that will be the end of these parrots in the US as pets except for those older birds still out there. I know of ONE pet store in NJ that has had baby BW in the spring the last 2 years from a breeder there they buy from. There may be one or two others out there, somewhere I am unaware of and a few non-reproducing pairs out there. I am so sad about this. I have been looking to get pairs and/or pets for the last 3 years and have called coast to coast and all of the listed pionus breeders as they have listings. Best of luck in whatever you decide. PS - I just took in a 15 year old WC female as a pet and she is the absolutely sweetest, calmest bird I have and will go to anyone. I wouldn't overlook older birds.

That’s so unfortunate to hear, but i suppose if the market demands aren’t there, it makes sense. I was debating a BWP or Ekkie when I ultimately got my Parker. I follow a BW on Instagram and it made me realize why I like them so much: they have such a falcon/hawk look to them. Feral beauty.

I used to look at the rescues and pine for one for Pionus. They seem like such lovely birds. I cant read this whole board, but I try to read the Pionus threads. Is a wish of mine to adopt, one day.
