I'm planning on picking up a room humidifier for the living room (birds) and one for my bedroom, and planning on going to bed bath&beyond as they have a large selection. Anything feature-wise I should look out for? Anything that could be hazardous first & foremost, then what would be most effective. Any imput from people with experience with them is appreciated. :) I have a humidifier built in to my furnace but its still very dry when I run the heat, so it's less than useless even cranked to high.

If you have a whole house humidifier that is not working, it either needs to have the rust and/or sediment cleaned out of it, have the water connection replaced/hooked up or the water supply to it turned on.....as it's starting to get cool, your system really needs to be serviced and inspected or it might need to be replaced (the humidifier assembly).....

Humidifiers, whether portable or whole house, they need to be cleaned regularly as they will grow mold if they do not receive regular cleaning of all reservoirs, wicking systems and water supplies.....

You can get an inexpensive combination digital hygrometer/thermometer to keep track of your humidity levels.....there are a couple of threads (last 6 months) that discuss a couple of combo hygrometers/thermometers, on the forums.....

Good luck.....

I got 2 of these from bed bath and beyond.
They work really good, but they need o be cleaned every few weeks. And the filter canister and the little silver thingy inside needs to be replaced every so often. I am very happy with them, but now I wonder if they make good ones with reusable filters or no filters?? So save money in the long run.

Costco has these on sale now! And there is nothing to replace!
