- Riley-white faced grey cockatiel (hatch date 6-28-2014) RIP Halloween-pied cockatiel
Over the last 3 days Riley's confidence has grown tremendously. It started off with her doing some extra flying on tuesday. Then yesterday in addition to her extra flying she started climbing perches she previously ignored. Today however has been her biggest improvement. She of course flew more but she also started to self entertain OUTSIDE the cage which she hadn't done before. Normally it's the moment I set her on top of her cage, where I keep her dig box and play gym, she will fly to me once I stop moving today however she was out on top of the cage for over an hour inside the dig box, chewing on her shredders (cut up in to one inch squares), playing with her forage box that is stuffed with shredded paper/cardboard, she even showed interest in her play gym for the first time. But the thing that has impressed me the most is that she is sleeping on her ladder. I originally had her ladder against the side of the cage but when she showed she had difficulties getting around I moved it closer to her cluster of perches so she could use it as a safety net incase she fell she had something she could quickly land on. Well tonight is the first time I have EVER seen her show interest in that ladder. To be fair the ladder is too big for her even though the spacing is uneven. The part she's able to sleep on is the second to the top rung. I had her try to step on the ladder during her first couple days here but she didn't like it. Because of her improvement I know it's almost time to declutter the cage. Once she is able to get from the bottom to the top then the decluttering will begin. Currently there are 10 perches in her cage NOT counting the ladder or swing so technically 12. She also has figured out one of her foraging toys and how to get the Nutriberries out. I am truely amazed at how much progress she has made in the past three days. I also found out that if I tell her to "come see me" she will fly from her cage to me
