hi everyone,
i have a cockatiel and it is a bit wild and i would like to know how to tame it but there is one thing stopping me, my mum is really scard of birds and she dosen't like us getting it out of the cage and i would really like to and if anyone knows how to overcome a fear of birds please post a note on the other topic i made today.

could you plz tell me how to tame my bird

Taming a bird is not as difficult as it sounds, but it's certainly time consuming.

Sit close to the bird each day, have a nice chat. Offer some tasty treats, like spray millet. Also, you may open the door and let him climb out onto the top of his cage to hang out with you. If you consistently hang out with the bird, eventually you can move on to further training; like stepping up, etc.

And remember, this takes TIME.

i would love to do that but mum is scared of birds and i wouldn't be aloud to open the cage freely unless i went into a locked room with would be hard cos buzza's cage is big and won't fit up our stairs/ledge

Boy, what a difficult situation. Your mother will have to get used to the bird before training begins, or else this could get very stressful.

Hope all goes well for you, good night.

i asked her and she gave me a straight no and said that she would rather be sacrd of birds then put her hand in the cage of go near it if it is not in the cage. why does my life have to be so difficult when it comes to birds. i mean it was a fluke when we even got buzza i mean there was a lot nagging invold but i thought she would never give in.

mabey put some food or treats in his hand and let the bird come come to him. or mabey he could sit in a room with the cage and open the door shut so the bird dosen't fly out of the room and let the bird get to know him and then he might let him touch him just give it some time he might come around soon but will take time if it will work

tell how it goes

Yes, just use the same method that I mentioned (similar to Ezza's.). I hope all goes well with training.

mabey you should put the cage in a room with the door shut and have your husband in the room to and open the cage door and let the bird come to him. you could also put seed in his hand and let the bird come to you. what i did when i first got my bird ws go into the bathroom shut the door and have the bird in there with me and then just put seed in my hand and did this for a while and then he came around to liking me. this culd take time

let me know how it goes!
