I am looking ro breed a red factor sun conure identical to the one in the second image (myko's aviary phillipines), The one towards the right in the first image is obtainable but the female I have is just yellow or natural. I have heard that breed red into red will get you darker red and that red into yellow will give you variation. What should I fo for with my options?
TIA

I have no idea, but maybe these folks might?

I believe the red factor is a semi dominant lethal gene. This is debatable. When breeding a red factor to a red factor there is a chance to get a super red bird that dies around weaning time. I am not sure if any have survived to adulthood. If you get that red factor and breed it to a normal you will still get roughly half dark factor but no super reds. I don't breed suns but I find genetics interesting. I would dig some more before playing with this mutation. A second theory is that a lethal gene is being passed with the mutation and could be separated allowing a super red to live. That is my understanding anyway

If you breed a red factor to a red factor there’s a chance the babies will be double red factor and those won’t last past weaning. If they are normal red factors then they live like a normal sun conures. I have red factor sun conures but mine are not as bright as that one.
