Kiko-Green Cheek Conure
Mango-Sun Conure
I recently got a sun conure 5 days ago n she is still scared of me. I am pretty sure the flight here might have something to do with it. Good news is she gets along with my green cheek :rainbow1: Kiko. Can I use him as an advantage to bring my sun conure closer to me? Or what steps should I take to bring my sun conure to trust me n closer to me? Any suggestions pls?

Was the bird tame to begin with? If the bird was not tame, then 5 days is not enough time to tame him. Be aware that even if he was "handraised" there are many meanings to that, and he may not be tame.

I do not suggest using your green cheek to bring Mango closer to you, but I DO suggest allowing Mango to see you interacting with Kiko, see you petting him and giving him treats, etc. Spend a lot of time near the cage, be slow and steady when you change his food and water, etc. Talk to him a lot, and begin by offering treats through the cage bars. The cage gives the bird some sense of safety from you, and is a great place to start.

Above all, do not get discouraged or in a hurry. I suggest googling some techniques and choosing whichever one seems to best fit you and your bird. I have owned many birds in my life, and almost none of them have come to me tame. In fact I am currently working on taming a GCC who have never been handled - just remember that your bird is smart and can LEARN to trust you. You are building a relationship :) Good luck!

Time, move slow, lots of ambient attention, treats and scratches (if he will let you).

takes time! my first sun conure came to us at 2-3 years old and it took 2-3 months to build trust. Our 2nd came at 2-3 months and was instantly bonded.

Birds have personality and will take time to adjust and figure you out.

Like the parakeet sitting on my bald spot right now...he figured out its a great landing zone!
