i wanted to ask some things regarding my alexandrine parrot. how often can i bathe my parrot? i live in india and it's summer time now. also are the toy bones available for dogs to chew on safe to play with for alexandrine parrot? if not, what do you suggest? my parrot is really choosy with things. some help would be really nice. thank you.

Don't give him bones for a dog...ever. You can use baby toys and balsa wood. You can bathe your bird every day! It's good for their feathers...I bathe my birds daily and they both have great plumage.

Hi Arnav

Welcome to the forum!

Which part of India are you from? How old is your Alexandrine? You could bathe him/her twice a week. That should be good.

You can boil some water; once the water is boiled put some Tulsi leaves and then allow the water to cool down and then strain the water and use this in a sprayer. The feathers will be in a good condition.

You can use Neem leaves too , may be just 4 leaves or so but be careful of Neem because if the bird drinks the water it can be toxic. Neem has anti parasite properties- so you can use this may be once in 2 months.

Never boil the leaves in the water.

cheers

i am from surat, gujarat. my alexandrine is almost 14 years old now. sometimes at some point of the year, i see it shredding a bit too much feather so i get scared.

Welcome Arnav!

Some birds accept bathing, others require much encouragement! Sometimes beginning with a clean spray bottle works best. If the nozzle is adjustable, a fine mist is the best way to begin.

There are many great toys available, but unfortunately they can be a mine-field of hazards. Toxic materials, clamps that can cause damage, etc. This thread may help with selection: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-toys/38678-list-hazardous-toys-here-please.html
