How noisy is your bird?

I'm fully prepared to get an african gray congo, along with cage, tons of toys, food, perches, etc..

I live with my mom while I go to college, which I will be waiting until next year so I can focus on working and getting a car, etc.. for now. So I have a lot of free time to train a new baby bird and help it adjust to its new home c:

My mom's concern, though, is noise. She and I both know parrots are capable of making some crazy loud noise lol But from my experience grays aren't like macaws or cockatoos and they don't screech or scream real loud. I know they like to talk and practice new words, hoot, woot, whistle, and make sound affects they like but are they "really noisy" birds? Is the noise tolerable for first time owners? I'm perfectly comfortable with even a screaming macaw lol It's my mom who I'd like to find out for.

Also, I understand a gray will be a screamer when it's nail clipping or wing clipping time lol but in general throughout the day.

Are they more quiet when given tons of toys in the cage to keep them busy? I know some of it is based on personality which is why I'd like to get more than a few people's opinions and stories c:

Thanks! X3

The experience I have with three different greys (one of them a friend's grey) is that they don't tend to just scream. I had a Moluccan cockatoo (who screamed a lot - regularly - very loudly) the grey never picked up her scream (thank God).

That doesn't mean they are necessarily quiet. Their sound effects, talking, singing, and whistling can get a bit loud- particularly if they are competing with other sounds like the TV. I had my grey in the living room where the TV was and she would get louder every time I turned up the TV to hear it better.

What about later at night when all gets quiet? My conure goes to bed around 8-9. Would their noise level be disturbing to other house holds? My mom is getting a husky puppy, too so we will be expecting some noise lol

Is it bad like a sun conure or an amazon?

I know it seems an over used phrase but it really depends on the temperment of the bird. My grey, Picasso loves being out of the cage when we are home. Besides his talking and whistles he is not really loud at all. If we walk out of the room he will call to us until we come back but never screams at all. Usually around 9 or so at night, he will start to get crabby and fussy, but that is his way of telling us he wants to go to bed. I will put him in his sleep cage and cover it and never hear a thing until in the morning.

All of my birds have quieted down at night. I did not have to cover cages; just turned off the lights.

Pepper isn't too bad most of the time. Sometimes her "sound effects" can get ear piercingly loud. Beeping, whistling, etc. One of my little dogs makes this crazy wailing noise when she's happy to see me, and Pepper quickly learned to mimic the sound (only of course, like all her mimicing, at an escalted volume lol). I've learned to stop the microwave/stove timer beep right away unless I want to hear Pepper's version "hey mom, I can do that only REAL loud, wanna hear?" Lol. But, overall, her noise isn't too bad, or too frequent. As somebody else mentioned, she does call for me if I leave the room, but not screaming, speaking "what are you doing? Hellooooo?, come here, hey!" Things like that.

Yeah my grey can mimic microwave beeps loud, but other than that he is not noisy at all. It's doubtful anyone would even know I have him if I was home. When I am not in the room or out of the house, he whistles and stuff to try to get someone's attention, but even then its not a scream, its a whistle and its not ear piercing.
