At this parrot store near me that I have been to 3 times (not buying from there because their birds are overpriced) and their black caps are $695

OMG! There's a parrot store here too (well... they deal in everything, but they have quite a large parrot dept.) and their birds in general are expensive... :/

Oh boy...we paid entirely too much for our Yellow sided...but that's okay, how do you put a price on sheer bliss happiness??

Franklin is amazing so far and melt our hearts...I can't even tell you.

We paid $399.00 USD Would I do it again? Well, probably...for the RIGHT bird.

:)

When I told my friend we fell in love with a Conure last night, she said...Tooonnnniiiii...you needed to go to the bird store I told you about, you'd have gotten a conure for around $200.00!...however...that breeder/store...DIDN'T have our FRANKLIN! :D

When I got Rio, he was 175 (pineapple). The breeder currently is selling normal GCCs for 155.

The pet stores near us are ridiculously expensive...

Green Cheeks - $688
Sun Conure - $1188
Jenday - $1288

... and it gets worse as the birds get bigger!

We would probably have another parrot if they weren't as much money as a small car up here!

Wow!:52: I would ask them why they are so much, and then, if you have any, give them prices of other pet stores. That is stealing in my opinion.:53:

They know that they are too expensive... It seems like they want to keep them for a long time. They have one sun conure there that they have had since before we got Bongo (November 2010). There aren't really many other options for stores, but a few private sales and breeders that are around half the price in the area. We paid $525 for Bongo (sun conure).

Well thats really odd. We have a pet store with a macaw. Its the store parrot. Cage to small, only its cage to play on. Feathers a mess. I guess the only thing I can think of, is they really don't want to sell them, but if someone comes along that is willing to pay, they'll let them go??? I don't get it I guess.

My GCC, Emmie was on sale for 199.99 at a pet store. She had been marked 329.99, but I guess it was just my lucky day. :)

Well, haven't gotten mine yet, but he will be free ;) (Adopting him from the shelter I work at. When I was trying to convince myself I didn't need the little bugger, my manager told me she would just give him to me if I wanted).

Ridiculous prices are pretty standard at most pet stores. I worked at a small one through college, and when our (shady) reptile supplier would give us the pricelists, often times the price we paid was equal to even DOUBLE the going price from a breeder (depending on if they bred or purchased the animals). Add a standard 50% markup and there you go. Rainbow boas were going for around $130 from a breeder, and I once saw them listed for $225! With our usual markup, that would mean we would have been selling them for almost $500!!

Of course, all my birds where senior rescues, but anyways...

2 Pineapples; 19 years old tame siblings, one was a feather plucker at the time, with small cage $200
1 Normal; 22 years old, tame, with medium sized cage $80

I took in the birds no one would ever want... In return, I got to have the pleasure of making their last few years better than they have ever had. Never met sweeter birds!

ETA- WOW! These prices at the pet store are insane! I refuse to go to the live-animal section of the store, because I'm afraid I won't be able to control my impulsiveness. Quick question: why would anyone pay that kind of money at a pet store- when you can get one from a reputable breeder/shelter for only a few hundred? :O
