Out of my 4, Salsa and Maynard are soup makers. Zaf and Jack are not. With Sals and Mayn I typically need to change their water 7 or 8 times daily. They just love playing in their water bowls and they dunk and mix everything possible. Sometime what used to be their water no longer resembles liquid ;) Once they've worked it over it can become quite a concoction. Zaf and Jack's water, on the other hand, remains crystal clear all day long.

I've often wondered if the water play tendency is more of a species-specific thing than the result of individual personality. I suspect the latter, though. So I'm posting this to ask whose birds make soup, and what species are they?

Haha, Salsa and Maynard sound exactly like my green cheek conures, Bella and Zora! They dip EVERYTHING in their water. They cannot eat something withouth it getting wet, lol. They dunk their Nutriberries in their water like its a biscotti with coffee. Though their soups are more like juices. They put cherries, oranges, bananas, grapes in their water and let it "flavor the water." LOL. Though Oliver, my senegal is fine with his water bowl, only if he's on top of the cage and he drops a pellet through the bars and into the water bowl. =)

My princess parrot was a soup-maker too.

Puck liked to make soup! If I gave him a dried fig and a dish of water, he'd spend hours mashing them around, lol.

Sunny wasn't a soup maker until she accidently dropped a paper towel into her water one day. She was so fascinated by the result that she started trying everything in the water. Now her food, toys and anything else she can get in her bowl gets washed. She has some half grown kittens who like to sit by her patio cage and keep her company. She has been tossing them tidbits since they were babies and now the poor confused cats think soggy washed pellets are yummy stuff.

all of ours do....think they see who can make the muckiest

Yep. That's how it starts :D

Both my Ekkie and my white capped pi, Barkley and Pepper respectively, have been dunkers. Pepper first. Then Barkley saw Pepper do it, and now anything and everything goes in the water dish! :)

My BG not so much so, but our amazon dips EVERYTHING in water and sometimes will take food, put it in the water, and not eat it...for no good reason!

My TOOs love to dunk their pellets !! Especially the Galah , Rosie :)
My Yoshi boy did it ever since he was a couple of months old , now he's a professional dunker :). Rosie makes great soup !

My Macaws don't dunk , in fact , their water stays crystal clear !

Our Greenwing (Peanut) loves to put his wood toys in his water bowel and they turn the water different colors. He also puts any ropes hanging from his toys into his water bowl then pulls them out and sucks on them. Our Blue and Gold (Bandit) puts some of her food into her water bowl before eating it, especially the friuit and veggies we give her......

My Ecky Jax is a soup maker. I was wondering if i should just soak his pellets to start with. LOL

LOL Sprite is a soup maker, he'll store 3 pellets in his beak, run over to his water, and dump them all in. Then he eats them out of the water, but most of the time they sink before he can eat them LOL!! And this repeats everytime he gets hungry. He'll even dunk raisins and dry apples!

my budgie has a water bottle, with a dish-like opening at the bottom (not the ball), and she takes her pellets, fits as many as she can in the water bottle, and drops it on the floor, so I have pasty pellet "soup" on the ground... and she loves watching me clean it up. :p
