White Bellied Caique- coming home in June/July!
Full album of pictures :]
Today was the day Nick and I were supposed to come place our deposit down for our baby WB. We were both anxiously waiting to find out the sex of the baby as well, so when I got a phone call from the place I was so excited and I raced outside to take the call (I was working at the time)

I knew by the tone in her voice something was off. She told me that they had purchased a new incubator... I'm sure most of you know where this is going. But it malfunctioned and my baby, a tiny runted cockatiel, and a beautiful green Alenandrine (?) did not make it. Nick and I are absolutely devastated!

I just keep telling myself they sold it to someone else. I would think that's perfectly possible- maybe someone with more knowledge came along and they sold it to them she did say they don't sell to just anyone... Although it was a very graphic and terrible terrible story.

They said they would call me in a few days to let me know what their status is for available babies.. I would assume this is an isolated incident since they have been in business for 20+ years. But yea..

I don't know what to do now. Nick and I are so bummed.

I certainly don't want to guess as to what might have happened, but I am not sure they would have sold them out from under you if you had an agreement to come put a deposit down.

Either way, I am sorry to hear about this. There are a lot of breeders in NJ, NY, MD and VA - I hope you can find another that can assist you.

So sorry. Maybe there is a few babies coming along soon that will need your particular talents & love more than these guys did. Whatever happened, don't let it eat away at you. Bless their little souls, and move on to some other birds in need of you, as much as you need them.

My horoscope today:

V.SIGN Aries: Disappointments and slow progress will cause you to think about going home and trying to start over, but this is only temporary. Move forward.

Rather suiting.. And scary.

This is so sad... I am very sorry:(... I don't advocate for pet stores but in new jersey the largest parrot store in the world is located around there, we're you could possibly look at a baby I am not saying do this because I want to but because you guys want so bad to have a feathered friend.

I actually live in New Jersey. I think you're talking about Bird Paradise. We did visit there just to look. We have been to many of the stores within about two hours of us. But we're not looking to just walk in pick up a baby and leave. And Bird Paradise was not a people place. They had alot of birds but Nick and I are new to the bird world-their associates literally just stood there and watched us get bit and bit at by birds we were 100% unfamiliar with. They didn't attempt to even talk to us. Another customer talked to us about the birds they had to offer. I would not buy from a place like that. We have been to a few other places we like but the place we were supposed to go today was perfect. Close to home, they answered any and every question I had and they seemed to care about us as human beings with a specific lifestyle rather than two bodies walking in looking to leave money behind. We respected that.

We're not in a rush by any means. We're willing to wait for the right baby at the right place.

I strongly suggest you research private breeders in NJ. You will likely get a better hand tamed bird, AND a better price. I did this recently and I am thrilled with the results. I even by passed a well known bird person (store owner), in favor of private breeder.

So sorry this happened to you. I agree you should look on the internet for local breeders. You can find someone who is local and you can visit them and see for yourself. Good luck!

I am not sure where to look- which I know sounds incredibly stupid. But Nick and I were talking about this today and we've found that its not like a dog where you type in a breeder and there are breeders everywhere. I get store, store, store, random aviary across the country... I haven't been able to find a link for say one Woman who breeds a few birds. Plus I would much rather pay a higher price for a bird I get to see and bond with -I need all of the help I can get in getting this bird used to us, rather than a bird coming from I don't know where (since I can't find any breeders) that I don't get to see regularly.

Honestly it's hard to list pros and cons without knowing anything about your option, but if I knew where to find someone close I would definitely take into consideration.

Yea I don't like bird paradise but I thought if you were very desperate for a friend then you could go that route, I personally don't even say breeder I say rescue first, but it is a personal thing. I don't know of may caiques in rescue even around you currently you'd have to call around If you were interested in that route.

Hi [im sorry ] Let me tell you my story: Im in the process of getting a Rosebreasted cockatoo. I live in New york and cant find one here. So I chose a breeder in Georgia and he will have to be shipped once weaned [hes 4 weeks now] Ive never done the shipping thing and I have to say Im having the best experience so far. The breeder sends pictures tells me what they ate ,where their kept and how much they were handled.I think the most attention Ive ever received :) I would check out this breeder [Shady Pines Brotogeris Breeder - Canary-wing and Orange-chin Brotogeris Parakeets for SaleAviary] I wouldnt say this if I havent checked it out myself. If you have questions on other species just ask[ we have alot of other birds here] But I myself recommend a caique :)

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for you and Nick. I wish you both all the very best in your search.
Derek

Well, that just sucks. I'm so sorry that the baby you were planning on it gone. I hope you are able to find another that fills your heart with joy!

Have you checked bird mania in Emmaus pa?
Edited, OMG, I am so sorry!
I don't think they would mislead you, as heartbreaking as it is. Is this the incubator they had on the countertop when you walk in? I just saw those babies a week and a half ago :(

Bird Mania is where this happened. :(

Yes. Those are the babies you saw. Ours was in there. I've kept quiet as I Let Heather do the talking. We are both still upset about the loss as we still try and figure out the next steps. Although we only met the baby once we both felt a bond with him/her. As I wasn't much of a bird lover at all, when I saw a caique a few months back I was intrigued by the personality it possessed. It seemed friendly and enthusiastic with plenty of personality. I guess time will only tell, as we pursue a baby caique. Unfortunely we have to deal with this unfortunate loss.

Nick

I know Bird Mania well... THe owner is devistated over this... SHe's been crying for hours non-stop...

I was there last weekend and saw the brand new incubator... Apparently it had a manufacturing defect and malfunctioned...

THey get lots of babies all the time... (especially now). They love and care for them like they are thier own... Two of my flock are both babies from there and wouldn't think twice about getting another...

They will work with you... just give them a chance.

I am sorry that your baby died...

Sassy
