- Winston 屁撚, the Eclectus. 屁撚 (pi-nian) came from Pinion (Psalms 64, meaning flight feather, typifying God's soaring power.)
I have been amazed by how selectively food-motivated Winston is. This bird is definitely a mixture of hungry/greedy beak and perch potato.
When we go Winston, he weighted around 453g (1 lbs). That’s when he was going through the conversion from seeds to chop/TOP. After a couple weeks, we weighted him at 465 g. He takes chop very well now, and he picks out TOP to throw away.
One night, after a 40g dinner and a few treats from training. This bird was again on a hunt to get more almond. He went to the floor to look for bits and pieces, and he ate a piece of his own poop. (Before that, he refused a vegetable stalk as an alternative treat.)
I mean, from his behavior you would think we’ve been starving him, but he is just a PIG! Oh, btw he weights 480 g now...
This week, we ran out of the last batch of chop. I made him a new batch with beets and sweet potatos. He was all excited for meals until he saw the red lump inside the bowl and gave a “wtf is that” eye.
I thought, “great! You can take your time again to get used to new food, so you can lose a little weight in the mean time.” He proved me wrong.
He still hates the new chop in its natural form, but he loves it frozen. Chomped down like a popsicle, and ate another whole portion.l
I guess the story ends with...yeah! The bird can eat too much, and we will certainly piss him off by limiting food portions.
