How Do YOU Manage Your Parrot "Maintenance"

I love the chart idea and I'm going to have to go to it until it becomes routine for me...but then again...my routine changes about once a month because I get a new fid.

AM - I feed the cats first...they won't let me do it any other way. :D
Then I feed the dog. While she is eating I uncover the cages and say good morning to my fids. The fids get their treats and then I take the dog out for her walk. I then feed the fids their morning veggies and give them fresh water and check their pellet level. I then get dressed for work. One last time of talking to the fids and giving them another small treat.

PM - I feed the cats first but not before saying hello to the fids...usually by name. Feed the dog. Walk the dog - dog stays in the garage. Feed myself. Give the fids veggies/fruits/protein depends on what is on my plate. Then let the fids out for a couple of hours. Check their cages and clean anything that needs to be cleaned. Play with those fids that come out to play. Play Peek-a-boo with the fids who don't come out to play. Fids are free to walk around on the floor if they want too. My cats are usually napping but if they aren't the fids and cats just ignore each other any way.

Major cage cleaning is done on the weekends.

Dog vacuums the floor morning and night. :D I do it at least once a week.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. Our vet reccomended keeping them away from each other, but I think your solution may be worth a try :)

I believe there is a large amount of folks who don't change the paper every single day. Seeing what 'state' the bottom of my cages are in each and every morning (heck...sometimes even only a few minutes after cleaning them), I opt to change mine daily.

There are also folks who put in large amounts of paper, and every day they just have to remove the top layer for a neat and clean appearance.

I do an "as needed" cleaning. Paper changes happen when they are required.

My birds spend most of the day outside of their cages, so paper changes are significantly less frequent. Cleaning under and around the playstands, however, is a twice a day thing...

Mark, do you allow your fids to be out while you're at work?

I know if I'd let mine on the Java trees (which are HUUUGE), and left the house for only 10 minutes, I'd come back to my kitchen resembling a stash of toothpicks (wooden cabinets) :32:

I have a question everyone!

How often, and what method do you use, to clean dishes? I think I've been doing it wrong :(

I've been washing out the water dish every time I change it (twice a day with vinegar/water solution) and running it through the dishwasher every two days. I wash out the dry food dish every other day, and run it through the dishwasher twice a week.

Is this not enough/ incorrect? I've tried to find an answer but I'm unsure. I can buy more steel bowls easily if need be.

That seems fine to me. I refill the water bottle every day, sometimes running a little soap through it, then put it through the dishwasher once a week. I wash my dry food dishes about every other day with soap and water. I wash the veggie bowl very time I use it, though Sammy usually gets his veggies fed by hand as I eat my dinner. Otherwise he tries to do what he did today and land directly on my chicken leg and shove his face in it. I really wish I had gotten it on camera. He freaking dive bombed that chicken leg and his wings are clipped! He launched himself off his play stand like a maniac. He does NOT appreciate being left out at meal time. Guess I should have given him some of my okra!

I think you're washing the bowls enough.
