You still haven't answered what antivirus you use...
For free virus removal, I recommend Malwarebytes. It's not a live antivirus, but it is pretty good at getting rid of many nasties once they are there.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com
Download it, update it, perform a full system scan.
Microsft Security Essentials for the PC is supposedly a good free, live protection. Personally, this one bugs the crap out of me...
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows
For paid antivirus, I would recommend Kaspersky. They do provide a free antivirus scan
Kaspersky Security Scan | Free Virus Scanner | Kaspersky Lab US
And offers 30 day trials of their software. I've only ever used Internet Security and Anti-Virus. Either one have worked well for me.
Product Downloads | Kaspersky Lab US
I wouldn't recommend Norton, McAfee, Spyware Dr, Ad-Aware, AVG or Avast from personal experience and/or what my shop has had experience with. Some of them are worthless, some are only good if you get the high end software and not the home use, some can really bog down the system and make it slow.
Never have more than one antivirus installed. One [good] antivirus plus Malwarebytes is all that your system should require. Having more than one antivirus can bog down your system, they can compete with each other, and actually make your system have a higher chance of getting infected.
