Lolli pop A Pineapple GCC
Hi everybody i just joined your interesting site looking for kind of silly answer!! My husband ordered me a baby GCC from a private breeder. A local pet store had them delivered and he dropped off two 12 week old sweet babies. One is a pineapple pretty bird. She's cheeky climbed on my husbands head, steps up, all together perky and interested, but she's a biter. The other is sweet, very quiet and shy, not to fond of being handled and stays pretty puffed up. No bites etc.
we've been every day for 45 mins and played. I've never had a baby bird before. not sure who to pic? could i train the biter? Does the sex of the bird play into it? my last sun conure was a female and she hated men? she drew blood every time

I am facing a similar decision. My baby GCC will be here in the next few weeks and I am going to the breeder's this week to choose between a shy little cuddle bug and a feisty "mr. Bossy pants." What I have heard here and elsewhere is that while it may be possible to see personality at weaning, it is very likely your baby will change its personality with hormones. Also, many GCC's nip as babies, so either way the non-biter may start at some point. Either way, you will have a handful in a GCC, and will require a lot of training regardless. I'd go with the one who likes your husband...the advice is always let the bird pick you, and if he already likes one of you you're halfway there. :)

Stays puffed up? Are you sure she isn't sick?

Personally, I would go with the outgoing pineapple baby. The biting can be taken care of with training.

Thanks for your reply! I just got back from the pet store and the quiet baby was a little nippy today. It seems he's getting a little braver lol. The pineapple baby seemed excited to see us and was also intrigued with my daughters curly hair so thats another good sign. I think Mr/Mrs feisty will be the one!

I'm not sure if i'm replying correctly on this thread??? I was wondering about the puffed up feathers. That kind of put me off a little. Today he looked a little perkier.
It makes it easier knowing you both think the biter is a better choice!! Thanks so much

It sure sounds like the feisty one has picked you:) Hopefully the other little guy isn't sick, but sounds like he is doing better as well now.
Please post pics of your new baby when you get him/her home:)

You are posting correctly. Frequently puffed feathers equals illness, but not always. Generally though, it's best to stay away just in case. Keep in mind though, if they are near each other, both could be carriers (if it were A disease) and birds are good at hiding sickness.
Pictures help, but depending on the feathers it could just be a touch younger and/or sleepy. It sounds like baby 2 was just having an off day, but I still like mr. Feisty. :)
