Im going to this bird show with my mom and I am wondering how it works. Also, on the paper flyer I have, it says there is a Special "Kids Only" Division. Is that for like, kids to bring their parrots?? Im confused lol. Thanks :3

Also, how are birds judged and how is the winner selected??

Bird shows are sort of like a dog, livestock show. They are usually put on by a group of breeders breeding show quality stock. For instance the Cockatiel Society of America. They divide birds into different classes, Normals.Lutinos, Pied, Etc. They have lots of rules and a panel of Judges for different divisions. It's more like a country fair where everyone wants to win the Blue Ribbon or "Best in Show" award. The birds are put into individual ,identical cages ,given a number and judged on many different things. With bird shows there are lots of birds, cages, feed, toys, etc for sale.Usually they kid exhibits for kids to see pet birds on display along with their handlers. They talk about the different birds and their care and feeding, etc. Basically something to help draw the whole family into the outing.Bird Fairs are more about products /goods and not about judging the bloodlines of birds. Either of these events is NOT the place to bring your pet bird, usually all birds involved in these type of things are inspected by a vet before being allowed into the building, and chances for spread of disease are very possible. I would not handle birds there, and would change clothes, wash, shower, clean shoes, etc. before going home to handle my pet.

I have only been to one bird show in my life.... That was before I had birds...

They had a place, where they surgically sexed birds... You could watch this from behind a mesh cover - the same size as my cockatoos are behind....

There were thousands of birds there... One cockatoo actually bit a girl child (I didn't blame him one bit, but her parents did)

All those parrots sitting in their tiny show cages all day, waiting for the judges...

Never went to another one...
