House being painted tomorrow, worried about IRN

I see, thank you for explaining.

For some reason they changed their mind and allowed him to stay
downstairs in his regular cage, it has been a lot of stress off my mind.

Tomorrow will be a week since the painting was finished in my room, is
a week long enough for there to now be zero risk to his health if I were
to move him back in?

I can leave him downstairs for longer if necessary but
I have been seeing a lot less of him than usual (from most of
the day down to 3-5 hours) because of this. I feel we're both missing
each others company and he gets a lot less out of cage time in the
living room.

My parents have told me the paint is low VOC but i'd need to check myself
to make sure.

Oh and the door has been varnished too, would that make much difference?

I think you can safely put him back in his usual place now if you can't smell any fumes coming off anything especially the door. I'm sure he'll be so happy! Good job keeping him safe.

I'm still a tad worried because the doors are a little sticky and unlike the
paint I'm not sure whether the varnish is water or oil based as the decorator
brought that himself.

Would it make much of a difference if it was oil based?

I was informed that the paint being used is water based, although not ideal
I'm pretty sure it's no where near as bad as oil based paints.

Chances are once the fumes have dissipated and a reasonable time has elapsed, the air will be safe for your IRN. Water-based low VOC paint is generally used in nations/states with strong environmental standards, and I see you live in England which absolutely qualifies! Not sure about the varnish, however.

I had my house painted 2 years ago and worried greatly. The painters mentioned water based low VOC paint mandated in California is so safe "you could practically drink it." Well, that's a bit of a stretch, but I detected only minor and oddly pleasant odors. My birds were in the garage and a dedicated bird room, neither painted and had no issues.
