Hormonal obsessed bird - advice needed

It's me again, about my bonded black-capped conure. I have been reading a ton about how you are not to encourage hormonal birds to nest if you want to calm them down. The problem is, Jade has 1 interest, and one interest only, and that is dark places. He constantly tries to dive down my shirt, even sits on my shorts and goes under my tshirt that way. He occasionally will chew on cardboard in a box but other than that he is obsessed with digging under things. I don't know what to do. I can't interest him in toys at all - cardboard is the only thing that has distracted him, and that has a limited life span. I love my bird but the constant battles are tiring and I really want him to have another interest in life - something fun for him! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Wish I could help but I have never had this experience with either of my conures. But, it must be a bad time of year for them because my male conure started plucking the tail feathers out of my female. My solution was to buy a new cage for her. They are still next to each other but he can't get to her.

Hope someone more experienced can help you out!
