LoL....The second time Willie bit me is when I had him out away from his cage and he just chump down on me. But so far he's all better now....thank goodness!!!!!

My macaw gets NASTY when she's nesting...but I can usually get her out of it within 2 weeks by changing the paper every day so she doesn't get to actually MAKE her nest, and deter her from fussing with my blankets on my bed when she is out. Works most of the time, she gives up! I found her cycles got shorter the older she got as well :) I feel for you and your hand though, my macaw has gotten me a couple times with that beak of hers...

I sure hope his cycle gets shorter as he gets older. In the past its never been this bad until his 10th bday this past year.

Hi, It angers me to be told by some they don't care or want to know the sex of their parrot. It is a form of crulety. It only costs $20.00 and gives you a great deal of understanding into behaviour. I have never recognized any of these terrible hormonal experiances I hear of. Probably because I know the sex of my parrots, parrots bite for basicly three reasons, fear, anger, jealousy. I have three small scars on the back of my right hand from the only time my girl ever truly bit me, that was because I was talking and ignoring her jealousy of the female amazon on my other shoulder. Many humans don't realize it even in their own specied but sex makes does a diference. D.D.

Your poor hand! Puck got me pretty good yesterday when he was possessed by a demon.
HAHAHAH!!! I almost died wen i read this!:) haha funniest thing i heard all day haha thank u for that! i jus pictured a possessed bird haha al crazy looking and scraggly lookin head feathers! haha

Oh no ! No doubt that was a painful bite , sorry about that MikeyTN.
I guess time will tell whether or not you have a male or a female.
Till then , like you said , keep all hands out of the cage and hope for a speedy end to this hormonal stage. Take care of that wound !

He's 100% male! He did his mating thing infront of us....

Luna, it varies depending on who you ask. Yes it's great to know the sex for many reasons. But I usually do figure out the sex pretty quickly. My breeder friend who bred for over 40 years told me from the beginning when we got Willie that it's 100% boy as he explains how he knows to visually sex B& G macaws and so far it's been pretty accurate even sexing others B&G. Once you've bred birds, you catch on to what they're doing to sex them very easily. The only reason why I was baffled by was when he was shredding papers looking like he was trying to nest. Usually the females do that but I've seen males help before as well. We didn't see the point having him DNA tested after talking to my friend which his theory proves to be correct. Is it absolute you have to sex your birds? Absolutely not! I think it's best to know but I also think it's a individual choice!!!

Pete has never been DNA sexed, but at this point I'm convinced he is male. He also wants me to nest with him in the bottom corner of his cage.

He has regurgitated on me 3 days in a row now and today asked to hump my hand. I said absolutely not! At least he doesn't chomp down. He just holds my finger lightly in his beak as he starts trying to mount my hand.

Willie was more attracted to Rocco the white husky....lol....during that period, Rocco was the only one he was nice to. He will bite anyone else that comes too close even Alexis our girl husky and they've been together the longest at 7 years while Rocco was only 4 years.

Awww , they "wuv" each other , lolol.
