Hope Returns with the arrival of Carla and Tiago!
It has been a huge honour to be a part of what has been an incredible and momentous occasion held today, on World Wildlife Day 2015. The Spix's Macaw has done and continues to capture the hearts and minds of countless bird lovers the world over. The common dream of whom is the return of the species to the wild. Today's event was more than simply the return of Carla and Tiago to the Spix's homeland of Brazil, it was an immense strengthening of the partnership between ACTP and Brazil in the quest to achieve the goal of the reintroduction of the species back into the wild. The third stakeholder, Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation was not able to send a representative, however they were present in spirit and reconfirmed their intent to continue in their cooperation within the Spix's Macaw Recovery Programme, which is of vital importance for success to be achieved.
Today we are one step closer to achieving this goal, the goal of seeing the Spix's Macaw fly free again!

The goal is to have wild Spix's in Brazil by 2021.
AWWP has a huge area of caatinga almost ready for habitation. Carla and Tiago are in Brazil, but are still in the captive breeding program - they're still too valuable to risk releasing.
The amount of work behind this project is immense, some truly passionate people on this team.

Officially 100 Spix's macaws alive and well in the Spix's captive breeding program, with the hatching of our 6th chick of the 2015 breeding season last night here at Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation in Qatar... This little chick will be named "Centurion" to mark this great event!
