Parrots
5 Parrots, 8 year old Blue-fronted Amazon, 2 1/2 yr. old African Grey, 2 3/4 year old Senegal. 5 month old ekkie, 5 month old Albino parakeet. Major Mitchell Cockatoo, passed away at age 68.
Geez, Tonite I ended up a nervous wreck.

Dinner time, fed all My birds, they all sit on top of their cage and have a bit
of what I had, plus their chop. They each got a chicken wing or chicken leg.
They love those. And fed the dogs in their room.

The Birds were all in their "Bird room" enjoying their dinner and I thought ok,
need to run up to the corner store real quick, 10 minutes at most.

When I gotten back, all I heard when I opened the door was the dog screaming for help from the bird room.
They literally had the dog cornered, (He must of tried to sneak in and see if he could grad something or food the birds drop) t
he birds hate that. Every toy on top of their cage was on the floor, a water bowl on the floor, a light knocked over, picture in
frame on floor. They must of beat the tar outta the poor dog. Or with bombardment.

After checking the dog and parrots out, the parrots were fine, the dog how ever had a few bite marks. One on his rear end, one on his head.

Not bad, but guessing Poppie or Greyson got ahold of him. Maybe even Tyler. Birdell, just sat their bobbing his head as if the whole thing
was funny, and coaching from top of cage. Poppie was on floor, Greyson on floor, Tyler on Bottom of his cage door.

When I walked in dog ran out, poppie was talking up a storm as if blaming the dog, greyson was just silent like, "Take that you filthy animal"
and Tyler was just sitting there like... What the heck just happened?

God I wish I had a cam set up...was funnier than the 3 stooges.

But whew, this could have been worse, for the dog, My parrots show no mercy toward the dogs. They are all ( 3 of them) scared of the Parrots.:D:32:

Pardon me for saying so, but that could have ended tragically. I'm glad it didn't.

Unless your dog is hairless, those bites wounds must have been pretty bad to show up through the fur. I've been bitten by parrots often enough to know it's a very unpleasant experience, I'd feel terrible if one of my parrots bit one of my dogs. Sorry, I fail to see the humor.

They're weenie dogs, they have very short hair. They know better than to venture in there when parrots are eating. Wasn't anything to worry about.
Got the ear a bit, nothing major, and the hind end. Nothing that shows much there either. Yeah could have been worse..... But never the less Funny as heck with the parrots expressions.
They are my wife's dogs, I personally can't stand them. Not a dog person. But they are part of the family, so I do look out for them and care for them.

Being bitten is unpleasant, and yeah probably terrible for dogs, but our one (Louie) took the risk. Sorry if you didn't find humor, I sure did.

I'm in complete agreement with Allee!

To all newbies: Please, NEVER ever leave your dogs (or cats, or other predatory animals) and birds out together UNATTENDED for ANY amount of time. An accident can happen in 1/10th of a second, and 'usually' the bird will pay the price, sometimes even with their lives. :(

Dachshund, Rottweiler, or any dog in between, NO dog should be allowed to be bitten, that's why supervision is a MUST. In all reality, a Chihuahua could kill a macaw. It only takes 1 single bite.

I never see humor in seeing any animal getting hurt, especially if it was avoidable.

I :smile015: my dogs - with a passion! And my fids, too of course.

Ok - that sounds so funny. I see/feel the humor. (But I also know that it could have been tragic.)

I have one too that chases my dad's dog. Doesn't chase my daughter's dogs and doesn't chase the cats but for whatever reason he chases my dad's dog...under the bed and follows the dog under the bed.

I agree with Allee and Wendy here. I am glad that none of your pets were seriously injured, but this could have so easily turned out to be a tragedy.
I also don't see humour in any pets being hurt.

Ok everyone, the humor that everyone failed to see here was how the birds defended their bird room by tossing their toys, water bowls, food bowls and toys down at the dog. When that apparently failed they took action.

The Humor was like a scene out of Home alone. Which I found rather hilarious.
but yeah it could have been bad. It definitely was an eye opener.
Mainly because when I leave the house I shut the bird room door.
The dogs can't get in, or so I thought. Apparently I didn't shut it tight enough
and Louie pushed it open.

I try hardest to keep the peace with 6 parrots, and 3 dogs. You can't watch them every second. And so far been pretty good. I never wish for the dogs to get bitten.
After all, they killed one of my birds already, years back. They learned though
that the others bite harder and stay away. Part of nature, and it happens when
you least expect it. I have to compromise for my wifes dogs as she dose for my
birds. It always a learning stage no matter how hard you try, no matter how safe you think you have everything, no matter how sure you think the environment is, an accident can happen.

It's good that it didn't happen this time around. And adjustments to prevent it
again have been taken. It's part of owning animals.

Glad your Dog / Birds are safe

How is your Wife's Neck ?

It's doing ok, healed up nicely.
However Poppie got her real good on the wrist not
long back. And just 3 weeks ago, nearly took her eye out.
She had a real good gash on the side of her face about a 1/4 inch back from eye. Side of her face is still black and blue.

Now my wife says poppie needs to go. Sigh....I'm thinking it's all
hormonal, but she went for a female friend of my wife's, pretty good.
And Gotten another friend of hers just last week. Not sure
what's going on with her. She loves the crap out of me, and is in a serious
mating mood. That's the only thing I can explain, but no one is buying it.

She's a lovely bird, and made a 180 on my wife when they were best buddies. I can't explain that one. But I don't want to get rid of her either.

I'm no "Newbie" I've had birds for over 50 years now. ;)

I used to be an avid dog lover. When my daughter was 7, she came in from outside yelling dad, dad, there's a hurt dog out side.

Someone had shot the dog right at the shoulder with a rifle. I took it
to the vet and he basically said it would cost way too much to save
it. and suggested putting it down. It was a beautiful Doberman.
I paid to have it saved, several thousand dollars and 3 surgeries.
We had a 3 legged dog. That was until my daughter walked up
to kiss it on the head a couple years later and it snapped.

Literally taking my daughters face off. 44 stiches! The dog was taken by the police and put down. Nearly 20 years later,
deja vu all over again. My daughters daughter 5 years old, was in back yard playing in the snow, neighbors dog, a
Siberian Husky/Timber wolf mix began mauling my grand daughter. I shot the dog under police orders over the phone
from 911 when my wife and daughter called. We couldn't get close enough to get her, the dog would growl at us. So I did what I had to do.

I don't trust dogs now, Yes I have 3, but I compromised, But I am an animal lover.

LOL...it could have been tragic. But I doubt it. My birds never intentionally
Go after the dogs. In Morning My wife and I sit at the table and have our coffee while the birds all come down off their cages, ( the Grey and Amazon) and literally walk right past the dogs within inches, and just keep walking to get to us. They never bother the dogs, and dogs don't bother them. But they don't like them near their cage when they are eating.

My Grey will pick things off my plate and walk to edge of table and drop them down to dogs, sit there for a couple seconds as if waiting to see if the dogs want more. Then gets more and repeats the task. Kinda funny. One big happy family.

Hawk I have three dogs, one should be classified as a Hoover, he can sniff out food, devour it in seconds, and on a few occasions I've chased him out of the bird cages. He's an English bully and a plus he can't fit through the door of the cage, he tries hard to climb in them. (I'm waiting for the day I walk in and find him sitting inside one of the cages, he's a pig.)

I understand the comedy with the parrots and your dogs. My bully wouldn't think twice about going after my parrots food and I've had battles with him. He loves food!!!! He has also smelled the parrots, being friendly, the parrots were not and they beaked him. The initial beak I was there, monitoring. Since then the dogs stay away from the bird cages. I let the dogs experience one interaction, since that one, no more but my dogs are more reserved now. I keep an eye on the dogs and so far things are well, the dogs don't try to interact with my fids but Canelo will still try to eat their food, lol. He gets called out by Buddy, then I intervene. I love your flock, coffee time in my house is birds time too and I love it.

My heart is breaking for what you had to go through. That couldn't have been easy to watch or do.

Just a reminder for all of us that everything living has a snapping point. Even humans.

Thanks,

LOL, what dog does not like to roam around bird cages for a treat. We have
3 Mini dachshunds, Well louie is a small pig Ha haa. Loves food.

My birds never take chunks out of my dogs. They " beak" them basically.
Then that's rare as well. My Grey one time Climb up on Louies back when he was sleeping and He (Louie)became startled. My Grey hung on and went for a short ride before hopping off, then sat there on the floor
and goes " Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh" as if totally amused. My wife and
I were watching the whole thing from the dinning room table and we were ready for any conflict. Was really funny.

My dogs and birds get along great typically with no problems. Sometimes
the bird wants the toy the dogs are playing with and walk over and
literally take it from them.

Morning time is bird time as well, I make tea and oatmeal,
with apples, cranberries, flax seed, walnuts, and berries and my birds
take turns eating from the bowl on the table. Then a sip of herbal tea for
birds, no caffeine. They walk over the dogs or around them to get to the
table. You can hear the conversation between the birds and dogs.
" hey morning fatty, Morning bone head" :D
