Dusty: Dusky Conure
So im back from college for a week and the first thing i did when i came home was take Dusty outta his cage and walked around the house while he told me of his time without me (he gets really chatty when i come home ^.^) Right now he is sitting on his play stand still chatting ^.^ Aww I missed him. Anyway I came home to find that he completely destroyed one of his perches. Any suggestions for a new one? My dad was going to go buy a dowel at the hardware store and cut it to fit the cage. Any other suggestions? Right now he has one large dowel one that came with his cage and a calcium perch that he can chew on but doesn't. ^^ Also does anyone have any good toy ideas? I need to get him some more but i wanted to try making a few from hand.

Any and All Suggestions welcome!

ok here's what i usually make sure is always in my conures and teil's cage:

perches: rope, manzita, cement/grooming of some sort - these can be in any combination. all my my birds love boing/bungie style ropes.

Toys: acrylic. hard wood chewable - not necessarily for the teil but a must for conures, easy destructible, then assorted other.

here are some links to get you started on some of my favorites

Dusty: The more natural a perch the better the bird will like it. They also need to be the correct size for the bird. My vet sized my Rosie due to pressure areas on her feet from the wrong kind of perches so I learned the hard way. Now we have all natural bark perches and the pressure areas are healed. There are ways to know if your bird is on the correct size perch by the way the feet wrap around the perch. I found out by reading books about the grey. Your bird is smaller than a grey so you may be looking at a perch less than 1 inch in diameter. Hope this helps.

Birdcrazy: Dusty hates springy perches. In fact he is petrified of them ^.^ Thank you for the links.

SpiritBird: I know the perch sizes for them. I interned with an avian vet last year and she helped me find the proper perch size for him!

Welcome home, enjoy your birdie time, sure he missed you !!!!
Reckon you have enough links (mentioned above) pertaining perches and home made toys.
Good luck
