Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
... I just called my Avian Vet to make an appointment to bring the Beebs in for a check up. Now I have been going there ever since I have had birds..and usually get a "next day" appointment..They told me they are booked up for TWO FREAKIN' WEEKS!!

I told the knucklehead on the other end on how long I have been a client and voiced my disappointment :15:.

At any rate..I was told they can "squeeze" Beebs in tomorrow at 11 am :D

Just a funny side note here...BB was on my shoulder as I was chatting with the receptionist..the guy started laughing coz he could hear BB saying "BB Good Boy?..BB Good Boy?" :grey: :p

Glad you were able to get BB squeezed in there! I hope you get some good answers about those flights.

"BB good boy," eh? Not a shy one at all, is he? Lol!

We have been seeing this kind of loaded scheduling for several years. To easy around it, at the end of that day's visit, I pre-schedule our next visit. With our guy being on an intense every other month visit schedule, its just simpler.

If you are visiting the vet twice a year. It's worth pre-scheduling. If you are a once a year visitor, set your mobile device's calendar to remind you to call a month or more in advance. It's not going to get any better anytime sooner.

Steven you are correct..the receptionist did mention that in the past several months the influx of patiants has been staggering.

My vet office sends me a post card,a few months prior to an annual or bi-annual visit..I just didn't receive one for BB..I did for Amy tho.

Pretty please try to post more vids of him... I'd LOVE to see him chattering about and talking :D

Try to sneak a vid of him when he doesn't realize you've got the camera ;)

As someone who works in the industry it's not shocking, you likely had another vet in the area that felt with avian a or exotics close or move so the patients need to go somewhere else, you also have all the regular customers doing yearly appointments and for some odd reason they ALWAYS coincide with back to school month (parents have free time without kids to go to the appointment).

Generally I've found the best time of year to do appointments and not have a wait are avoiding the following months:

January
June
September
December

For some reason that applies to everything BUT livestock, livestock vets are always busiest furring spring and fall in general, horse vets can be busiest year round depending on the number of stables and what the ravings industry is like in your area, generally for yearly we book summer or smack in the dead of winter for our horses to avoid wait times for non emergency things.

We have one vet that services our entire corner of my state for exotics and non chicken avians (MOST livestock vets know chickens in our area) so a wait time for a general appointment can be 3-4+ weeks 1.5-2 in non busy times of the year. We were going to neuter our rabbit if he started showing aggression at sexual maturity (same place as our avian vet) and the wait for that was a month MINIMUM year round unless they got a cancelation because they only do surgery days once a week.

Does it suck? Yes. But that's the industry in general sometimes it's all supply and demand and when most vets go into general small animal or livestock and not exotic or avian it leaves a huge demand for avian/exotic vets because there isn't enough of them to go around easily and they need to keep a time slot or two open in case of emergencies so they aren't having the entire day go to hell (gives hem time to reschedule clients if a large emergency happens)

In a lot of areas even just getting a dog in somewhere can be a two week wait on a normal basis.

Do what I do, find a 12 - 15 year old. They'll get a kick-out of it and you will quickly learn of a Brave New World. By the way, it is better that they show you only one thing at a time. Anything more than that, I find I'm back asking again. :D

Must just be a matter of locale. Here on long island, we got plenty of dog n cat vets, and even a choice of exotic and even avian vets. The vet we use for Salty is a different one we use for our Cairne terrier, Tinker.
But I bet one would be hard pressed to find one who knew chickens or goats. Jim, I too wanna hear BB talking, he sounds like he would be a fun one to live with.

Which android phone did you get? Just curious :D

I LOVE the samsung note 7... it is amazing (it's also waterproof!). I just bought an ultra slim case for it... and 'Nut is NOT allowed anywhere near my phone because he destroys everything LOL... thanks goodness Rascal doesn't care and leaves it alone by default.
