4 Budgerigars, 1 Kakariki
Hi! Newbie here! (of course. Just stating the obvious.)

I have three birds, my two budgies Pat and Godzilla and my kakariki Pixel (who is quite the handful). :D

Nice to be around.

Ooooooooo..... I LOVE Kakariki, I had a red-front named Katie the Kakariki. She was a very sweet bird but she wouldn't stop laying eggs and she died of egg binding....it was very sad that I lost her. I saved her so many times to help her pass but that day she give up. I would love to own another one someday. There's quite a few varieties out there these days. What type do you have? Welcome to the forum!

Thanks! I'm really sorry to hear about your girl. That's the one thing I fear about having female birds.

I'm not sure about what type she is. She's...yellow with a red head. ( Pixel in hi res! on Twitpic <- Picture of her. The full size is quite...full size) I'm new to Kakarikis, it's the first time I've had one. I gotta say, thus far she's just awesome. I've bought her in November.

...I say she because I'm guessing, by the way... Apparently the other kakariki they had from the same clutch at the pet store was bigger. I'm going from there.

She's the Lutino variety. The original coloring are green with red front. They're wonderful birds!!!! Very quiet barely makes a peep. They way they squeek is so cute! They're wonderful apt birds since they're not loud birds. Pretty much same care as Cockatiels. Not much different!!!! :)

Lutino huh... Well I sure prefer her yellow than green! Think it's prettier that way. :D

Well she can actually get pretty loud when she wants to. In the morning especially, when I'm caring for the other birds and changing water and all, I don't want her running around all over the house. So she starts loudly cackling at me until I open her door. She's really bossy when she feels like it. And bitey (I must taste great.). But it takes a really big bird to impress me with biting. Like...African grey bitey. I already got my chewed on by like 5 young african greys at the pet store. Saying ow when the first one bit me was a bad idea. o_o Game of "Let's gang up on her!" ensued. Two actually jumped on me!!

As for cockatiels, they're really great birds, I had some as a kid, but I'm not sure I'd get some again... A bit loud. Kakariki really looked like my best option of "Playful" and "More quiet than budgies" :D
