hi, new member here

Hi every one, im new and have 1 bird at the moment, my yellow crowned amazon named keiko. She is my first bird (i know not a good starter bird, but everything is good).I have a question. When keiko flys to me or to her stand, sometimes these little grey fluffy feathers fall out. is this normal or does she need to be checked by a vet. thanks.

I am almost sure what you are describing is "dander"

The fine hair-like extensions continuously break off and coat the skin and feathers. As the bird preens and exercises, the excess powder falls off, taking the dirt with it, which helps to keep the bird clean.
It looks like little fine feathers.



Have you taken Keiko for her first vet visit? Very important that you do.

It is quite normal what you are describing with the feathers Amazons dont have Dander, but they do lose alot of the small fluffy feathers.

As everyone has said, it sounds pretty normal, but i agree with Antoinette that it's important to take your bird to a vet for a routine check up, normally once or twice a year.

How old is Keiko, and how long have you had her?

Yes it was very hard to find them. I had to travel a long way to an exotic bird breeder. Keiko is only 17-18 weeks old
