I'm John, and have owned parrots for some 15 years - down to one Amazon now. He and I need help navigating customs into Canada. Been to the Vet, got the health certificate, etc., but still not sure this is going to go smoothly. Can someone point us to some threads to peruse?

Many thanks!

Welcome to the ParrotForum.

The Amazon Forum is very active and we hope to see your posts there soon.

If your timing is yet this month (September), you will really need to get moving. Fall migration will be starting within the next three to six weeks, depending on where you will be starting in the USA and going to in Canada. The further North, the earlier the start point.

WHY: Depending on whether the Avian Flu (H5N2) re-surfaces in any of the flyways from northern Canada. This 'may' close the boarders in either direction until Winter fully sets in place (mid-late December). If your plans are more like October thru early December, you will need to keep a close eye on Canadian and US Ag Dept. releases. Also pay attention to 'Port of Entry' points. Some crossings are limited to auto/human only i.e. Auto Ferry, etc...

Regardless, get your paperwork together soon. NOTE: Commonly, Vet Cert. will only be approved for a limited time period.

At present, Canada's CFIA is stating that: "Live pet birds maybe brought into Canada from the United States if they come with official APHIS Certification."
