Hi, Im TheArk.

Im currently here to learn and grow more as a parront.
I have two four year old budgies and almost sassy two year old GCC.

:blue2::blue2::orange:

I absolutely love them dearly and think it is important to keep up with research.
You can never learn too much about an animal or anything for that matter.
I also, have a few other rescues at home my pup, bunny (saved from a kill shelter), Rat (was very sick when I got him), Cats (16 yr old bottle baby and a 3 yr old saved from being found dumped)

I would hope to add a bigger parrot in the future as my final animal.
It was a split between that or another horse. But, know equally they are both very time consuming animals. So, at this point it is not a rush to decide.

( I used to own a horse but, he passed away a few years ago)

Welcome to Parrot Forum.

The original Ark must have been an amazing boat.

Happy that you are committed to rescuing as there are just so very many needing help!

Only point of caution, Animals and that includes Birds are very expensive when they need medical care. Being proactive with medical care is very important!

My simple two cents: Assure you can afford the size of your flock.

welcome!! You are right there are always new things to learn, and new ways to think of stuff. This forum has taught me a lot

Welcome! I guess I'll just ramble a bit on a few topics that are usually of interest to newer folks...

Here's some reading on bonding for you.

Most of us swear by our avian vets in the event of health concerns.

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.

I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

I'll just drop a note about avoiding teflon pans, which can be lethal to birds if overheated.

I'm glad you're here. Lots to learn and share and enjoy!
