Dora - Green-rumped parrotlet ♀
Hi everyone!
I'm excited to be joining the community. I've been thinking about adopting a green rumped parrotlet in the near future from a local breeder. It already has a few toys lol:yellow1: At the moment, I'm looking at different cages but the choice is overwhelming. Any advice is welcome.

Welcome! Parrotlets are great, I’ve only seen a few but the ones i have seen are amazing. The more knowledgeable parrotlet owners surely will chime in. Pics when the baby’s home!!!

Thank you! I'll definitely share pictures. Initially, I was considering a pacific parrotlet but after conversing with the breeder... I think the green rumped parrotlet would be ideal. Hopefully they will chime in - especially concerning the cage

Get the biggest cage you can afford, bigger is always better. Just keep the bar spacing to no more then 1/2", so the little guy doesn't get his head stuck. You might very well spend as much on his cage as you will on the new addition. Parrotlets are way cool, very smart, and think they are the size of a Macaw, which can get them into trouble. We have one parrotlet , Bumble, on this forum, he's doing all sorts of tricks . Make sure you can afford to own a parrot, they ait cheap pets, a vet bill, with a Certified Avian Vet ( no dog & cat vets) can run into hundreds. And they chew up toys at an astonishing rate - a parrotlet would use cockateil sized toys. Good Luck!

Thanks for joining and seeking advice before bringing your companion home! I have no experience with that species, but read all you can! Some of the basics are similar across the board.

Thank you everyone! It's been a pleasure reading what has been shared and gaining insight. All your birds are wonderful. Last night I discovered Bumble's(adorable name) thread, which was inspiring. I had no idea about flying suits.
The breeder suggested buying a small cage and eventually upgrading to something bigger. If I were to do this, I'm unsure what minimum size would be best. Lots of questions lol. I've planned a visit to the breeder for next week. Hopefully I will have decided on a cage in that time.

Welcome!
I'm so glad you found us. I know you'll find great advice and camaraderie here, just as I have.
