I just got a male eclectus and it's 49 days old now. How do I teach him step up? It doesn't seems respond very well even I tilt my palm.

Hello and welcome to the forum:)

He is still very young yet at 7 Weeks old. He will step up in time. Just keep putting your hand under his chest and as he gets a bit older, you will find he will step up autoatically.

Are you still Hand Feeding Him with formula?

Wow a baby! How neat. Please share pictures and welcome to the forum. I wish I knew more but there are others on this forum who know A LOT about birds and I've been very thankful to them even though I've only been here for a very short time.

Yes, I'm still hand feeding it with formula. But find it not very active even feeding time. It will only remain inside of the cage calling out and I will have to bring it out everytime when feeding. Is this common for eclectuses at this age?

Welcome to the forum.
He is still a baby and needs a lot of attention and bonding, right now you are his mother and he depends on you for everything, food, warmth and safety.
From what I have read you will have to take him out to"hand" feed him.
As far as stepping up, he is still very young and will need to be trained with patience,
Just put your hand, palm down and put the back of your hand next to his legs on top of his feet and push up a little and say step up. With you pushing up he will learn to step up onto you hand, be patience as his balance is not very good and he will use his beak to steady himself, he may bite down hard, but he is not biting you only trying to secure himself.
Post some pictures.

Everything COWTOWN said :)

I got Jax at 8 weeks still on 3 feeds a day. I didn't keep him in a cage though. He was in one of those square plastic storage boxes -- Which is what the breeder suggested-- Until he was about 11- 12 weeks. we bent some wire mesh into a lid so he couldn't get out and nothing could get in. The inside had a small towel and some kitchen roll on the base so he felt snuggled and secure and it was easy to keep clean. Here is a pic where you can see the black box just behind him.

I couldn't get him to step up out of the box as there was no room, but i would just scoop him out, which didn't bother him. I trained him to step up from the table, just how Cowtown suggested above. although i say "Come on then" instead of "Step up". Now he is 17 months old and telling me to "Come on" all the time. LOL

Yes, your baby definitely needs more warmth at that age. So a makeshift incubator would greatly help him to feel safe and should encourage him to eat better. They need the security of feeling like they are in the nest and Aims suggestions are very good.

As he developed he can go into a small cage where he will learn to climb & begin to venture out more. After he is fully feathered and climbing he is ready for a larger cage with perches. At too young of an age & not knowing how to climb, he could injure himself if he falls.

Eclectus can take several months to completely wean. My ekkie is close to a yr. old and is very opinionated. She steps up when she feels like it. We are still working with her on this, but females tend to be the bossy ones in the ekkie world. Good luck with your baby & do as my h reading as you can on raising baby parrots. It isn't difficult, but things can go wrong in a hurry with the slightest change in their environment.
