Hey guys!

My names Tim, I'm 25 and live in Alberta! I have been a long time animal lover, also worked at a pet store as a teenager. I mostly have interests in reptiles ( I breed snakes as well ) but have always loved birds as well. I just never was in the proper situation to give a bird the proper attention ( worked on the oil rigs was always working). I also didn't want to have a bird while renting. I now own my own home, and still work in the oil patch but now I have my own shack (it's like a little house) and spend lots of time in my shack and at home. So I decided I was ready for a parrot. After months of research, i decided on a Meyers! I think a little Meyers would suit me perfectly! I did fall in love with a cockatoo, well he fell in love with me, when I was younger working at the pet store. But I don't think a cockatoo would be a good first bird. Also I don't know if my girlfriend could handle a cockatoo because she gets migraines frequently. I ordered him from a breeder in Vancouver, I wanted to avoid shipping, but all the breeders locally I didn't get responses from. Their web pages were very outdated as well ) so I went with the closest breeder I could find. The flight is short so hopefully he doesn't get too stressed.

His name will be either Zazu or Petri I will have to meet him
To decide! He arrives March 7th I will post photos when he arrives!

Congratulations! Working on an oil rig must have been some work.

Meyers are adorable parrots, good choice. And kudos to you for having the forethought of doing the research and not simply settling with a cockatoo (having the understanding of what is best for both you and the bird)

Good luck to you! Not much of a reptile person, but I am head over heels for the birds. Feel proud that you were among the minority who truly put thought and research in before becoming a parront.

Hi Tim and welcome! I am in Spruce Grove, AB:)
I bet you are so excited for your baby to arrive! I can't wait to see pictures, and I would love to see pictures of your snakes as well.
I'm glad you joined us and I look forward to hearing all about your baby:)

Thank you kindly for he warm welcome!

I am a chronic researcher and when I'm interested in something I will research for hours a day, months at at time before I jump in. ( I'm a " hoe hand " now so lots of time to research). It's just so easy to find top of the line information these days. Although I do wish there was more info on Meyers!

Congratulations :)! I am a bit biased to Poicephalus parrots myself! You won't be disappointed.. I have 2 relatives of Meyer's. Robin and Griffin wave 'hi'.

Thanks raven! After research I was stuck on a poi! Although pionus were a close second! Maybe one day if I decide I can care for two birds I will get a pionus!

Hey Tim, welcome to the forum! I like both names you have picked out for your Meyers. It sounds like you are well prepared for parronting. Best of luck.

Thanks Allee!

Got his cage and a few of the toys I ordered in! Still lots more toys/accessories coming!

I'm not sure I like the cage. It seems small and there's a 1" space at the top in worried he might get his head caught in. I think I'm
Gonna buy a different one and use his as a travel cage. Any size recommendations? The current one is 20x20x29 (inside dimensions)

The breeder has him on roudybush so that's what I got. I think I will slowly switch him to Harrison's.

Welcome!! I'm new, too! I can only imagine the excitement you feel to get your new Meyer. I've gotta tell you, I like the name "Petri". I'm anxious to see pics and find out what name you settled on. Someday, I will go up in the size of birds, not quite there yet. Good luck with your new one!

Thanks Ronnie!

I think I'm leaning towards Petri as well!

I have always loved "Petri" from The Land Before Time movies.
