As it turns out Nemo isn't a boy at all! Nemo is a baby girl. So in the world of macaws what does this mean? Are there many differences between males and females? I had planned on naming Nemo well Nemo if she was a boy and Dorry if she was a girl but the name Nemo has really stuck with all of us so Nemo is staying Nemo. Love love love my baby girl <3

Congratulations on the news! Females are often a bit smaller so that might explain Nemo's lower weight to some degree. Females can be great birds just like males. I've known some female Macaws that are really sweet and extremely smart. Obviously the most important thing is, she's your baby !

Sherry, I too went through the whole sexing issues. My Breeder would have put her business on the line and just knew that my Male GW Neleno was a female so I picked the name Nelena after my Grandmother. After getting my GW home and after sexing, I found that Nelena was a Neleno. This is how his name came to be. Perhaps you too could just change the last letter from Nemo to Nema.
