Help! zebra finch escape

was changing millet for bird forgot to close hatch and she flew out. Has been flying in room for 2 hours now. I tried grabbing her in dim light but as soon as she felt me touch her she zoomed so fast I dont have bird net only a insect net my brother use to have I don't want to use it it has big holes that can hook her nails and cause more injury than needed. She is not clipped she can fly perfect need help will she return to cage if i leave it open when shes hungry or thirsty?

how far away is a place where u could purchase a proper net? Or maybe you could get one overnighted to you? You should keep one for future use anyway.

perhaps use a bedsheet, one that is thin and not likely to hurt him. A pillowcase if you can get close enough. Regarding them going home for food and water, well it depends on how easy it is for them to get there. If they are fearful they will stay put, but if they feel safe them they may roam more freely.

I would have to get her mid flight, she is always up high

I am thinking i will just rest on my bed keep light near her cage and hope she flys back in for water/food

are you doing this alone or do u have help? If u have help perhaps u can have ur partner drive her towards a bottleneck where she can be captured more easily. Taking away options for roaming will help considerably like driving her into a bathroom would be optimum

My finches have escaped lots of times, if I tried to catch them... they would always win, lol.

What it took for me to get them back, is leaving the room for 1hr or so, and my boys went back into their cage on their own and all I had to do is quickly close it!

I had to ensure my plants were covered, otherwise they would destroy them and ensure my parakeet was covered cos they can get through his bars. Just ensure they are safe and they will go home eventually!

unfortunately it is just me, I don't think she will go out the door my room is quite big in length. When I approach her she does her flight loop around the lamp than straight towards atop something I could try leaving the door open but it is on a horizontal lengthy wall hard to notice but it goes into the kitchen and a much much larger room the bathroom is a sharp right halfway down the hallway

thanks guys, I think I stressed her enough.. no work tomorrow I suppose. I will lye under my blankets and watch quietly. I would rather be in room since i have lots of potential hazards like a dark closet with no door that she already got into tonight

hi just read your post. You don't need a net if it happens again dim the lights and throw a hand twle over her when she is on a solid surface the scoop her up with both hands in the towel bring her to the cage and allow her to come out of the towel in thru the cage door. you are less likely to injure her that way. it also gives you a more secure hold Just don't squish her. Just turn out the lights, that's what my friend used to do with her red factor canaries if they got out of their flight cage.

by now she's probably hungry and thirsty, put her favorite food in the cage, full food and water dishes and open the door as wide as it can go. how long have you had her? if you had her long enough to get used to her cage, she should fly back eventually. stick a perch in so that half sticks out the door so she can sit on it and get in. good luck
