Chilli - male hahns macaw
Hi all i have a hahns macaw (mini macaw) and he lives out of his cage most of the day, loves to sit ontop of the curtains and relax haha.

I was going to convert a 3ft x 3ft walkin cupboard to his night cage, put a fullsize mesh aviary panel where the door was.

My only problem is the walls are plasterboard (drywall) and i cant think of what to cover the walls with.

Tiles without spaces/grout- would let water inbetween when he has a very messy bath.

Timber cladding - read online that it would be poisonous to him.

Plastic cladding - toxic if he chew it (i think)

I was thinking about laminate floor on the walls, any thoughts of other ideas? Thanks in advance guys :green2:

How about just curtaining? You could take it down and wash it and if you want it back as a cupboard, you'd only have a couple of holes to restore it.

I did think of that but it would only be a matter of time before hes tangles up in chewed threads i recon, i had a snuggle bed thing with one of my old conures and he got tangled up in it, so dont really like fabrics close to birds since :/
Thanks thou

Oh, I thought he'd be ok, because you said he likes to sit on the curtains. You can get tile sheeting. It's as if it's tiled, but it's just sheeting. They use it over plasterboard where tiles won't adhere. It's for bathrooms and wet areas, so it should be ok to be splashed (although you'd want to be careful with ventilation in there, are there any air vents? You'd need to put some in, otherwise you'll get issues with damp.)

Just googled and there perfect thankyou, the price made my eyes water mind haha.

And im putting a vent at the top, although i dont think it will need it as its going to be open fronted, but better to be safe.

Thanks again

How about acrylic? Would a sheet of that work?

Yes, anything "proper" will cost (and it's not just the sheeting, but the glue, or framing or however you affix it as well), just sticking up some rods and calico curtains would be the cheapest.

You need an "in" and an "out" so definitely add the vent.

Acrylic sheets cost a bomb, unfortunately.

You could keep an eye out for second hand old shower plastic sheet things, just depends how much if a rush you are in!
