Green Cheek Conure
I just got my almost 5 month old TAG and things are going well. This is only his third day with me, and he really enjoys being with me. I just have a few questions. When sitting on the couch together, he likes to climb either up my body or up onto the back of the couch and then attempts to stand on my head. I immediately remove him and put him back onto my lap and tell him no. Any suggestions on how to break this habit. Also, his claws have tore my hands and shirts up. I'm not confident in trimming them myself as I never have done it before. He is on an all pellet diet. What vegetables and fruits are best to introduce to greys?

Lastly, His wings are clipped, but he can still fly some. I have a pineapple GCC. I let them both out ontop of their cages while I am able to supervise. Today, my grey decided to fly to my conures cage for a visit. My conure seemed weary and my grey acted more like a curious puppy. My GCC turned into a bully and they had a little scuffle. Neither one was hurt, but I'm very afraid of allowing any more interaction.

All advice is appreciated

Congrats on your new TAG. Our CAG is also barely 5 months old and came home last month (our 2nd CAG). Your baby wants to be at the highest point which is why he wants to be on your head. Consistancy is the key. Promptly stop him from climbing on your head and if he doesn't stop, calmly put him in his cage and ignore him for about 5 minutes (time out). He will soon learn.

Your tag is still young so introducing new veggies should be a cinch. Make the introduction fun. I had a plate of broccoli, squash, carrots, green beans and sugar snap peas (in the pod) and ate them in front of him. He was very interested when I handed him each one and he quickly joined in. I microwave the fresh veggies for about 10 seconds to soften them up. Be careful - don't hand him hot veggies or he will burn his crop. Even 10 seconds still requires me to cool them down for about a minute. Now he squeals with excitement when he sees the veggie plate coming out:)

Your TAG is young and curious and will naturally want to visit the other cages. It's very important you monitor this as your GCC when not appreciate their space being infringed upon.
