Hello, I am new here. I have an insect problem and need some type of treatment. We all of the sudden have gotten roaches in our house. I need to get this taken care of, however, I know that birds are extremely susceptible to toxins and fumes.

I have a Moluccan cockatoo that is over 50 years old and a little Meyer's parrot. Can anyone advise on what to do to take care of this problem? Are there any safe exterminators?

Boric acid ( a powder) left at the points where they enter the house and where they concentrate is one thats pretty safe. Traps with bait too. But if its a real infestation, removing all animals , people, drinking and eating utensiles andhaving the place bombed is the most effective way. Are you in a house or appt? in an appt setting, its very hard to get rid of them, because they just come in frm the appt next door and re-infest.

Yes I had this problem a couple weeks ago. Not good with a parrot in the house but I got about 5 cans of bug spray and saturated the place, focusing on doors, windows and any notable cracks or crooks they can hide in I then got out for the day to let the place air out. I then went around with some sealant to cover the cracks and then stuck down any and all "removable" flooring and put a layer or sealant around the bath panel. I also gave EVERYTHING a good hard scrub down to remove even the faintest trace of food residue. So far so good

Welcome to the forums! Bugs are a terrible byproduct of civilization and problematic with birds.

I do seasonal battle with ants using boric acid and surface areas with a soapy paper towel and leave a bit of residue. Biggest battle is with :headwall: rodents :headwall:

Sorry I don't have specific advice for roaches!
