I am new so I pray I'm doing this right I know this is not a dove site but I can't find help anywhere I have been to 3 vets that told me they could help untill I got there and payed to see them then they said they didn't know anything about doves they knew my bird was a dove when I made the appointment too I told them anyways I have a solid white baby dove my dad said it was a love dove I am unsure on that but he is a male and he's about 2 1/2 months old he is making the most sadest noise like a squawking I guess he never stops every four to five mins he get loud and shakes his head then continues his mouth stays open and when he breaths its like he is trying to take deep breaths he don't have anything in his neck I've looked dropping are the same please someone help this is so sad I don't want it to suffer from something I can fix also the other birds his mother and father was jumping on him and picking on him so I had to move him out of there they was trying to kill him all of the sudden please anyone

Hi there,

First of all, don't panic - it will not lead to any good decisions.

Secondly - is this a wild bird, or your pet?

Now, open his mouth - what do you see? Does it look slimy, dry? Are there any white or yellow spots? Here is a photo of a healthy bird's mouth -

does it look a little like this?

If you can, try to take a picture of his mouth, or describe what you see.

Move the feathers of his chest, until you can see the skin of his crop - does it look like there may be something stuck inside? Is it full/big or empty/small?

I don't understand why the vets couldn't help, that seems extremely unhelpful of them.

I took him to a bird speicalest and they said it was to late that we just had to wait it out he passed before we got him home but thanks for the help it ment a lot but he was our pet he had something wrong with him from birth he only walked backwards but thank u guys

How sad, so sorry to hear about that. Good move separating him, so at least he wasnt harrassed too bad while he felt bad. Birds are often terrible to any sick ones within the flock.
