Hi guys, I’m a new macaw owner here in Brisbane, Australia. I’m so disappointed that our local council has now band us from having parrots. There is a petition started on change.org. I was hoping to get as many bird lovers on board as possible to scrap this law. I can understand a permit to keep them but they are taking them off is due to our land size. Does anyone else have laws like this ?

My wife has many relatives in Colombia and I have been told they are no longer allowed to own parrots.

Police even go door to door asking if you have them.

I find it amazing that Police down there don't have better things to do.

Wow that’s interesting.. thank you for the reply.
You’re exactly right, you would think they have other crimes to attend to. I won’t be giving up my baby that easily.

No way would I give up my parrot. Personally I'd fight it with every breath and move else where if that didn't work

Good luck

As far as Colombia goes my guess and it's only a guess.

Because there are so many wild parrots in that region it would be to easy to get them from the wild.
If no one can have one then there is no problem with wild caught parrots as pets.

I can understand this after owning a wild caught bird myself but what do they expect to do with the ones that take from owners??

My Mother-in-law in Colombia has a couple, has had them longer than I have.
It was my wife's description of her mothers parrots and their antics then really prompted my entry into parrots.

anyway I agree with the OP. Taking birds away from responsible owners is not right.
