HELP! Poco flew into window

Really hard. He flopped around on the ground until I got to him. He was panting, which has gotten better. He is very weak, but able to stand.

His left eye is bulging a bit and is bothering him.

I'm worried that he broke his skull. No vets within a 100 miles. Our usual emergency avian vet is unreachable. Will get him to vet in the AM if he survives.

He is standing quietly on my shoulder in a dark, warm room I offered a small travel cage with a towel and water. But he wants me.

Advice please

I can't lose him.

No vets means the 2 avian vets in our area are unreachable. We called all places and then called their recommendations. No luck.

Sadly, when an injury or illness occurs during a weekend one is held in a medical hold as x-ray are not available until the Vet Clinic is opened.

At this moment, you are doing what you can do.

If things improve, it is still important to take your Parrot in for an examination.

I will definitely get him to the vet in morning. He seems to be improving. Drank a bit of water. Asked for a kiss

Try to keep him way warmer (without an unsafe space-heater, as many contain deadly PTFE/PFOA/PFC/Teflon)

Keep things darker and calmer than normal for a bird in shock.

Monitor weight/eating habits etc

If you can keep in touch with an avian vet, please do so.

Thank you, he is cuddled up on my neck in a dark room. I monitor his weight and will do so more often now. He seems to be improving still. I thought he was going to die right away, so very scary. The way his legs didn't work and the very labored breathing.

I have hope now that he will survive. Seems almost normal, so much better than an hour ago.

do not let him fly fir several days. Keep caged when not with you. Warmth is always good. And make sure eating enough. With head pain might eat less.
I hooe things keep improving.

He is doing ok. I can tell he is not himself though. He is hanging out inside my shirt now. Acting affectionate and lethargic

I turned the heat up in the whole house. 72f for most of the house and 75f in the living room where his cage is. He also has a heating element in his cage (bird specific type)

His eye is bruising. He is not interested in food, but ate a few bites and drank a little water.

He refuses to go in his cage, which is not normal. Wants to be with me. That is mutual. I am very worried.

Should I check on him throughout the night, or let him get good sleep?

Clearly you will want to check on him, just cause, right! :D

So check! My recommendations is let him know you're coming that way he will not become frighten when you just all of sudden appear.

Let him spend as much time with you as needed to allow him a high level of comfort.

Thank you, I will check on him then. He hasn't left me since the accident about 6 hours ago. I wouldn't miss a minute with him right now.

You're most welcome Mike. I would be spending every moment with him too if he was mine :smile015:

You could try. If it doesn't stress him , to hold a cool cloth over the eye, repeat every half hour till bedtime to help reduce swelling

The reason you don't let him fly for 4 days or get stressed or be free out of the cage if he is not on you. Is you don't want his blood pressure to go up, and cause more swelling or a bleeding on brain . Even if he acts fine keep him quiet.

I didn't know that, we will make sure he stays safe and rested.

I think he is going to make it, but I am still so very worried.
