I've posted this in the 'other' category, and thought I should post it here instead.
My female gouldians' nail is turning black, and don't know why. I've never come across this before in any of my birds. She is holding her foot up when perching. I know this is not normal, but don't know what is causing this, it started going black late last night....any suggestions??, or anything I can do for her.
I'm wondering if she is going to loose her nail. everything else is fine, eating, pooping, behaviour, just her nail problem.

Here is a picture of it, it's the only one I could get.

it looks like maybe a hair or something small is wraped around toe.it has died in the tip and will fall off sooner or later.will not hurt bird as far as health.it should be fine.---also it could have been bitten by a larger bird---parakeet or cocatiel the toe is dead on the tip or will be soon.

hey thanks, now that you mention it, she might have been bitten by a male gouldian.
I have a pair together, then her in with them. she seemed to be off a bit in the last day or two, as the male seemed to be 'at' her, not trying to breed with her, just not getting along.
I removed her and put her in with my female shaft tail, they get along great together, but then I noticed her nail last night.
I'll take a closer look at her nail for anything that might be caught on it.
thanks for your advice
