Hi everyone, new member here after purchasing a parrot a few weeks ago.

Now i need help desperately

I think i have an amazon parrot, the seller was very vague as to what the bird was, all he wanted was my £500 and now he wont answer any calls.

The bird keeps screaming every day (and night too)

I cannot keep him like this, ive tried to contact the seller but hes ignoring all calls now :(

I would like to try and re home him with someone that knows about birds, and can give him what he needs.... as i obviously cannot :(

He is hand tame, talks at times, when hes not screaming that is!

Any help from a parrot family would be appreciated....

Are you sure this parrot is weaned? I am guessing it is, as it is talking....Just wanting to make sure.

Location might help for those able to assist in adoption. A picture would help with species ID.

I want to caution you against giving this bird to people without first really getting to know them a bit. There are people out there who acquire birds and then turn around and sell them for a profit. These people are called flippers and they are all over the internet (Craigslist, forums etc). Hoarders are another thing to watch out for- now, just because someone has a lot of birds, it doesn't mean they are a hoarder...but these animals are expensive (and a ton of work) so just keep that in mind. If a person's only posts on this site are all about wanting to re-home birds (without much real interaction with other members), OR if their first post ever is a request to re-home yours, just be aware that they COULD be sketchy (that is not at all to say that all of these people who do this are!!!! It is just something to be aware of). I would meet them, request videos, ask about their history/ if they have other birds...how long they have had them...what vet they use and how often etc etc. Do not trust a few pictures (it's very easy for a person to post anyone's images). I'd want a few phone conversations and video of that person holding a paper that said something I specified (so that I knew it was actually them..or at least, most likely).

Moderators can help share your contact information if things progress and you need to give that out. Don't post it publicly-- but you can ask them if they would be willing to give your information to people making inquiries, as you don't have enough posts to private message people.

Thank you for your reply noodles.

I am in Essex (UK) and fully aware of people wanting things for free.... i will not be giving this lovely bird away for nothing, ive only had him a matter of weeks but i just cannot keep him due to the screaming at all times of day and night.

I can upload a pic of him for anyone who is serious about taking him on.... he comes with a big cage and toys too....

Hi Pez and welcome to the forum. So....you bought this "amazon" with no clue on what type he/she is and with no experience/knowledge about birds in general?
Birds are TOTALLY different then cat's or doggo's...or fish...they are more like humans..some like you some don't. You need to understand that this parrot went from someplace he was sort of familiar with to a totally different location and surroundings and people and is probably scared out of his feathers! I'd be screaming too! Two weeks is NO TIME for him/her to adjust. I'm not here to make judgement or give you a hard time. PLEASE understand that! "Bird People" are a special an unique bunch..you need to be a bit whacky to be owned by them lol and it sounds like you're not that "type"

Please...if you can...post a picture of this creature for us. This forum is world-wide maybe someone can help you with your search.

Jim

Hopefully you can find a home.

Screaming is usually an unhappy parrot, what are feeding, what is the cage like. Hsve you had a parrot before?

Jim, i have owned an african grey for over 20 years, until he passed away recently... hence getting another bird.

I will upload a pic as soon as i can, i knew i was buying an amazon parrot, but unsure if hes a green, or any other specific of variety.... all i know is the seller isnt obtainable and just wanted to get my hard earned money for this bird... a shame as he IS lovely when hes snuggling on my shoulder, but for the last 2 days its constant screaming :(

I didn't realise you are an experienced owner so my advice was pointless.

Do you have one of him with his eyes open? It is still hard to see,

Is he sick?

He seems a bit sick in that picture...Sometimes they will scream when sick.

Any idea on his age?? He looks small.

He's asleep in that pic.... a day of him having cuddles, will try and get one with his eyes open....

The deep groove in his beak, and his color make me think he has health issues. The groove usually indicate a respiratory infection, or malnutrition. Usually low Vitamin A leads to respiratory infections.
Probably a history of an all seed diet. The color is usually liver issues, from a fatty liver from all seed diet.

Most likely yiu will have to give him fir free to a suitable home. As they know how much-needed they will have to spend to get him straightened out. I've taken on rescue or rehomes to help tge parrot and tge person, not because I heeded another parrot. And they were given to me for free. So keep that in mind.

Looking at the first picture his beak doesn’t look right and indication of bird having health related issues. Could be malnutrition, or liver issues? The second picture is he looks ok not as bad feather Quality but color is off and beak doesn’t look to bad, but that groove on first picture, so could have been angle of first picture you took. I would still get him checked out by avian veterinarian, for bloodwork and wellness exam. Likely due to lack of nutrition as crap breeders, or resellers thinks seeds are what they only eat?

He is an Amazon btw. I still am curious about his age. I think yellow-crowned or yellow-naped (but can't see his back so not sure) also, I am not an expert on Amazons. Hoping others will correct me if I am wrong.

As much as you hate having to lose money. If your unwilling to take care of the bird. It best to give the bird up to a rescue/Sanctuary. Facebook and other social media site attract people that are pet flippers and are even convincing to fool even the most experienced people. Only way to filter out flippers and Hoarders is to do house visits and look at setup and signs if they are flippers. Also put a high rehoming fee helps.

If your experienced I would just work out the issues and get bird to a certified avian veterinarian.

Other question is does he scream literally all the time, or for attention when you walk away, or put him in cage?

Just to add to this, the screaming does sound like he is in pain.... hence why i want to take him to a vet..... he needs to be looked over by a professional
