help me stop my grey from screaming

hello im new to this site and arfter some advice my two year old african grey billy is driving me mad hes always screaming he dose talk but the screaming is really starting to get to me its constant can any one give me some advice on how to solve this problem coz i dont no how much more me or the mrs can take

Im am new to the parrot owner thing and there are many here with more experience but I can tell you my girl screams for attention or when I leave home. I leave very early and she knows my routine the rest of my family usually wakes up too. I have read greys need 3-4 hours out of the cage with your attention a day.

Most of the time when they scream is for attention. Sometimes something is wrong....or something is upsetting them. Greys and toos are very much attention craving birds! When does he usually scream? Do you socialize him often? I leave tv on for my birds to watch. Or radio on for them to listen to. Lately we've been leaving tv off cause we have it on so much it burn the tv out and we had to buy a new one. So now radio is the option...lol

try ignoring it, because if you respond to it you are actually reinforcing it~ not an easy thing to do. when you are home give him as much attention and out of cage time as possible, reinforce when he does something good!

Screaming can be caused by many things. Has anything changed in his life, the room, his diet? How long has this been going on? How have you been handling it so far? The advice is usually to ignore, but sometimes when Fred is yelling, I respond with a sound, or a word that Freddie likes and he just picks up that sound. If you could distract Billie so that he makes an acceptable sound, and then reward that sound....

Ignoring part is needed!!! But my macaw would start to bang his cage and start to throw food everywhere.... he throws his tempertantrum if he don't get what he wants. So I leave him with the dogs, he chases after the dogs its kinda funny... or he tries to hump them... the dogs run from him when he's going after their paws. The little dog hides from him since he's terrified of him. I've got two huskies and a chihuahua. He is THE only bird I trust with my dogs, but I stll keep an close eye. Dogs will be dogs!
