Hello I have 2 umbrella cockatoos and I have red that with that certain species of cockatoo you can easily determine their sex by their eye color? Male is black eyes and female is red or reddish brown? 1 has very dark black eyes and my other has very red brown eyes. Is this myth true to determine their sex and is their any other way to tell??

My U2 has brown eyes, I had her DNA tested to be certain, in her case it held true. I think it's more than a myth.

As riddick pointed out DNA is the best way to be absolutely sure. Here's a link for another lab, they will send a collection kit for either blood or feathers for testing. It's not too expensive and the results are available in less than a week.

Yes I have heard this about eye colour in relation to my RB2. His eyes mostly look very dark (black) but you get some sun across them and then it kinda falls to pieces 'cause they look brown. DNA definitely the way to go as stated previously and probably something I will have done at an appropriate time.

For those going down the DIY route please don't forget to have your birds first aid kit handy, just in case as well as thoroughly reading the guidelines given beforehand.
