My brother in law I have acquired a pair of congos last year. They are semi-tame and were told that they are a proven pair. In the past 3 months the female has decided to stay in the nestbox full time, she only comes out to deposit droppings. The male has become a bit more protective of their cage and feeds the female. Recently she has begun plucking her chest to line the box.
It seems like they are getting into the breeding mode, but is it normal for them to take this long? We've been breeding lovebirds, finches, ringnecks for quite a few years but these greys stun us because they act so differently from what we've been so accustom to seeing.
Any input or advice is much appreciated.
