Since the fiance and I are going to close on a house of our own in April (yay!) I managed to bring him into the idea that we acquire one more, final, parrot. I really want Kippy to have a friend to lean on since our future careers will both require lots, and lots of moving. I feel as though I want her to have someone who is always there, not that they must be buddies or anything, just a familiar face. And I would rather bring another parrot into our lives now, due to their extensive lifespans rather than 10-15 years down the road. We have talked it over and we can easily afford it for the foreseeable future, so the plan is go! Now Lee is not trilled by any means about this, but he has grudgingly accepted my request.
Honestly though, I am not even 100% sure I want another parrot. I adore my little fluff butt, and would not want to pull attention away from her. However I have decided to think on it for a few months, maybe set up a few meet and greets with some local parrot people, and decide later on whether or not to go through with it. But for now, I get to play with the idea of having another bird.
If I were to bring in another to my lovely flock I would like a small to medium sized bird (Lee would bust a gasket if I EVER came home with something like a Macaw), something which is not known for its loud voice (not a big fan of Suns, Jendays, etc...), and preferably a non-prude. I consider my beloved Kippy to be a prude, and I would not survive two little prudes stalking about my home.
Kippy: "Don't touch me there!"
Kippy: "Give me that cracker! NOW!"
Kippy: "I don't do cuddles...nopenopenopenope..."
Kippy: "My breakfast...IS LATE!!!"
Kippy: "Excuse me, do NOT touch me, do you know who I am!?"
I was thinking along the lines of a Cockatiel since they are "usually" gentle and may be a good choice if we have kids (not to mention I love their songs!), a Maximilian Pionus, another Poi, or an Alexandrine. Of course, this is months if not years out, so I am just thinking out loud. What do you think guys?
