I'm so excited I stumbled upon this forum!

I'm a first time bird mom. I just rehomed a Sun conure (I named her Gallifrey the Mango) a week ago and she's adjusting well. She's 12 years old and hadn't had much attention. But she's warming up faster than I expected.

My sister had a Senlegal for 18 years (he unfortunately died unexpectedly) so I've lived with and cared for a hand reared parrot. Having one so skittish and unfamiliar with human contact is quite different, but I know she will keep settling in.

I have 3 cats (Phalange, Darwin, and Castle)and a dog (Grissom). I was a volunteer at a zoo for 2+ years before becoming an Assistant Keeper (for almost 9months now). I Have the privilege of working with awesome people and amazing animals. I love it.

Hello and Welcome! Your new friend is a real cutie, Congratulations!

I'm sorry about your sister's bird.

A week is not long at all for a bird to adjust to a new home, especially an older bird. I would just work on making her feel comfortable and let her build trust before expecting too much.

It sounds like you found a job you really enjoy!

I wish you the best with Gallifrey!

As Allee mentioned, just be patient a little longer, though she may be hungry for it, if as you said, she didn't get much at her previous home...as you're building the trust factor, you can work on her training, so that when she feels comfortable in her new surroundings and all of a sudden you find a sun conure version of the Bride of Dracula.....

Although the first link references a caique, trust and training is really universal:

Thanks for the warm welcome and the links!

She's had some issues navigating the cage and balance so we have had a bit of a setback. But my sister came by to help with so rearranging of perches and she's,doing very well. We are on track, I think.

She doesnt interact with toys, and didn't at her previous home, but I've tucked tissue in the cage and she goes around pulling it through. I will just have to keep tryin so she isn't bored. But she is doing great and I love her.

Is her cage bigger on the inside? Also which regeneration is she on?
