Connie - Green Cheek Conure
Hello!
I'm new to this site and I'm also a new parrot owner. I recently adopted a hand-fed baby Green Cheek Conure. Her name is Connie and so far it was been fantastic living with her.
It took her a little while to get used to her new home. She was pretty scared at first, when we took her out of the box she was shaking like a leaf. We put her in her cage and for the next couple days she was quiet and scared, she practically hated me and my boyfriend, I was heart broken.
All week I would feed her treats through the bars and talk to her. In the evenings I would leave her cage open for her to come out and finally at the end of that week she came out for the first time!
In a few weeks she had totally transformed. These days she can be found hanging upside down from my sleeve or nestled in my hair. She loves sitting on my shoulder no matter what I'm doing, even vacuuming! She nibbles my hair and rolls around on my bed attacking her favourite toy (a little fuzzy cat ball with some shiny papery stuff).
I've had her for about 3 months now. The breeder clipped her wings but she still likes flying and soon she's going to be fully flighted so I've started training her to fly to me or to fly down from places I can't reach. She's starting to understand that she can't fly through windows and mirrors, although she still likes an occasional visit with "the other Connie"
Im so happy to have her! She's such a joy and I love her to death. I'm looking forward to many, many more years with my little Connie!
(Sorry for this huge post, I could talk forever about her!!)

Hello and welcome. Glad you joined us. Thank you for sharing Connie's story and the adorable photo. Connie's homecoming was pretty typical. A lot of new owners aren't sure what to expect when they bring home a new bird, most birds are a little overwhelmed in an environment where nothing is familiar, the owner feels like they are missing something or doing something wrong. Sounds like you handled Connie's adjustment period just right. She looks very happy in her new home.

Aww how sweet. Welcome!
