Hello, I currently have 2 birds and 1 to come.

Baby blue - Blue Quaker, approx. 6 years old. Presumably a male.

Lucy - Green cheeked conure, approx. 6 years old. DNA female.

Soon to come, Red crowned amazon from a rescue.

Age is unknown, it wasn't provided to the rescue so they really have no idea but the one I was talking to said he figures about 15 years old.

I'm socially impaired and some may refer to me as "robotic" or "emotionless". When I make an attempt to participate in "small talk" it doesn't always go well. So if anything I say seems disrespectful or otherwise strange it's most likely not intentional and I apologize.

I'm quite the knowledge seeker and my head is filled with interesting(Well, in my opinion) facts about birds. Hopefully I can help contribute my knowledge to the forum without being a nuisance.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!! :) Do you have any pictures of your birds? I bet they are so cute! :D And Im sure that you wont be a nuisance!!! I would love to hear what you hafto say about birds!

Welcome to the forum Nathan!!!! We're glad to have you on board!

We'd love to see pictures of your fids (feathered kids) or (fur babies aka dogs/cats) :D

We're bird people- so we'd love to hear your bird facts! What is the most odd fact about parrots that people often overlook?

I don't have a camera, but I'll see if I can take pictures of all my birds when I get the amazon.

I can't really say what the oddest fact I know so I'd say they're all over looked...I'm quite fascinated by the Kakapo and they're not well known...So perhaps well everything about them.

They're the only flightless parrot.
Only nocturnal parrot.
They are the largest parrots, some believe this to be the Hyacinth macaw. Which is quite right, if you're referring to length but zoology defines largest as being the heaviest so this is false.
Possibly the longest living bird.
The only parrot in the world with a lek breeding system.

They're just so unique in the parrot world, I could go on forever.

I had heard all that about the kakapo except the lek breeding system. That's really interesting!

Wow! I didn't know any of that!! I'm going to have to look up the kakapo now! :)

So, what's your dream bird? If money wasn't any issue and you could have any parrot, which one would you choose?

Hi Nathan and welcome! Thank you for all the cool info on the Kakapo, I am going to look it up as well, I had never heard of one.

I don't really have a favourite or "Dream bird". I don't really like supporting the bird trade, and I'd rather just re-home a bird in need.

However, I would very much like to see a Spix macaw which are extinct in the wild and all that remains is less than 100 in a captive breeding program. The Red-tailed black cockatoo has also been an interest of mine...I can't name a favourite.

Welcome! Being a kiwi myself i know of the Kakapo. We have some pretty awesome native parrots over here =D I love the Keas

Rehoming is awesome! Speaking of- when is your red crown zon coming home? I had a Tucuman that was a rehome.

Ooooo the spix macaw- very very beautiful parrots!! I love the black cockatoos too...very handsome birds!

I'm unsure, the rescue seems to be very impressed with me and I'm having a visit on Wednesday. I will probably end up taking him home next week.

Your picture reminds of the time when a blue crowned pigeon chased my sister in an indoor aviary.

Yes I've seen those Keas on TV, they can live in snow and high up on mountains, and are well known to pick at your cars and pull pieces off and stuff like that. Does anybody have them as pets? I know they are very dark colored (probably because they live in cooler conditions and dark coloring would air in keeping warmer). For some reason I think they may also be a bit of meat eaters?
